Ship TUSKINA -1842
James E HegThis is another American flag ship of 421 register tons. She normally sailed in the NY- New Orleans trade. For most of her life she was operated by E.D. Hurlbut & Co., NY. She first shows up in my source in 1830, sailing NY-NO. In 1842 she sailed NY - Havre under Captain F.W. Spencer. In 1843 and 1845 she sailed NY-Havre under Captain S.O. Williams. In 1843 she sails NY-NO under Captain Spencer. Same in 1846 under Captain Williams. My source is "Queens of the Western Ocean" by Carl C. Cutler, published in 1961 by the United States Naval Institute. Cutler calls it "the story of America's mail and passenger sailing lines." His sources are excellent. However, the book is similar to Samuel Johnson's Dictionary - "While much has been included, much has been left out."[:)] James E. Heg
