BriningHi Mary Could this be your family on the Kveen farm in Lom in the 1865 census. Click Here I've looked in North Dakota and found a Quain be he was Irish. This website has naturalization and the 1865 census plus other databases you could search Click Here Carla
BriningIf that is the family in the 1865 census then I have found Kari and Rønnaug emigrating in 1875 Click Here They are going to Lansing Iowa so one of the brothers may have settled there. MARY GHELFHi, Many thanks to all of you for your help! Now I was wondering if at all possible to find more about their leaving Norway, I was told they were on a sailing ship in 1874, and during a violent storm and part of the ship broke away and sank. All of their food and possessions were lost. After the storm the crew ordered them into the hole below, and they nailed it shut but the passengers were able to break through and get out, they were rescued by asteam boat that saw their smoke signals. Long story but is there any way to find something about this, and where they landed. Also any info of their ancestors? I realiz e I am asking for alot .Thanks so much, Mary
BorgeThat must have been the Pontecorvo
TrondYes [^] according to the Police Emigrants records Ole Hansen Stuekviien 22 from Lom was onboard Pontecorvo, traveling together with Marit Hansdatter 22 and Anne Olsdatter 56. Their destination was Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Another 4 persons from Lom; Lars Thorsen Borgen 27, Kari Thorvaldsdatter Borgen 15 and Marit Olsdatter 23 were heading for La Crosse, Wisconsin. Ole Olsen Vaagesar 20 mentioned only Quebec as destination.
