Where is Gomibe?? |
Cheryl | My grandmother's birth certificate says her father was born in Gomibe, Norway. It could be a misspelling. Could it be Somibe? Sornibe? Gornibe?? It's hard to read the script. My grandmother was born in Chicago. His name was Hans Meyer on the certificate, but his naturalization papers say Hans Myhre. Any help in locating this area of Norway would be appreciated. I am at a loss in finding him.
Thanks,

jwiborg | Hmmm, I can't think of any place in Norway called something like that... [:I]
Don't you have any other info, such as other names, emmigration year of Hans, his birthyear or something?

Borge | Could it be Soerlie or Sorlie (Sørlie)? |
Cheryl | Hans was born 6/18/1861. We always thought he came from a farm called Myrum or Myhrum. His name was Myhre and was changed here to Meyer.
I have another post out there asking for help locating him. See what you think about the answers I rec'd there. Thanks everyone for your help.
