Variations of surnames
MistyBiue	I've been attempting to research the genealogy of my room mate who's great-grandfather is Henry Gorman. Henry Gorman married Helen (surname unk.) Their children are: Violet Victoria, Lillie Marie, Theodore, Elsie and Minnie. All of these children were born in or around Cloquet, Minnesota, USA during the early 1900's. All of Henry Gorman's grandchildren maintain that he was born in Norway or his parents were. However, I hit a brick wall in looking for any information or the surname Gorman in the Scandinavian County's. The State of Minnesota has a very large population of families that are of Scandinavian descent and my room mates great-grandmother, Helen (unk. maiden name) Gorman spoke with a Swedish accent. So, I'm posting this message in hopes of someone who might be able to come up with a variation or possibility of a spelling for the surname Gorman in Norway. Any help is greatly appreciated! Borge	The closest I can think of is "Garman", "Ganmand" or "Garmann" as a variation. Those at least are names used by people living in Norway in 1865 and 1900. I don't know if the names are originally from Norway, they could be people immigrating from Germany. Børge Solem
thelebrity	There are som Garmanns emigrating in 1882 an the some more emigrating around 1902/03. You'll find them in the emigration lists at Digitalarkivet (http://digitalarkivet.uib.no).
