OLSON FAMILY - NEW YORK - NEW JERSEY AREA
JNeumann-PrueI am searching for my Norwegian roots. I know it may be impossible as I have hardly a chicken egg to start with. I only know that my grandmothers name was Olga (Sophia?) Olson, born October 7, 1901, not sure where and she died August 1972 in Glens Falls, New York-USA and that one of her brother's names was Magnus, and another was Edward who lived in Glendale, New York and she married Fritz (Frederick J) Neumann in Glendale?(not sure of city) New York-USA. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
jwiborgHi, Do you know any emigration year? Did she come by herself, of was she travelling by her parents/siblings? Ellis Island have atleast 7 records of various Olga Olsen (Olssen), born 1901 (+-1), coming to the US. There is one Olga Olsen (19) from Oddernes, Norway, arriving Ellis Island on May 24th, 1920, sailing from Kristiania (Oslo) Norway on May 15th 1920 with the ship SS Bergensfjord. Her final destination is friend Johan Blomquist, 1258 74th Str. Brooklyn N.Y. Her mother is listed as Sofie Olsen Mosby, Oddernes per Kristiansand S. Olgas father is listed as Petter Olsen Svinør, Sør Audnedal, Mandal. Oddernes, Kristiansand and Mandal are all cities in Vest Agder county, Norway, although Oddernes maybe should be called a village or a sparsely populated area ... [:)] Well, this is just a clue..., atleast her mothers name was Sofie, and destination was N.Y... [:)] Use the Links to external resources below to search Ellis Island or Norwegian list of emigrants. BriningYour best bet is to collect all of the information you can in the US first. Get copies of your parents birth certificates, your grandparents marriage and death certificates. There could be information on them that will help in your search. If you can locate your grandparents on the 1920 or 1930 census, that should tell you if and when they emigrated, nationality etc. New York vital records have a web site Click Here Carla
WendyBlomquistHello, I am a descendant of an Olga Olsen, born in 1901. She lived in Baldwin NY, and I recal hearing of a relative named Magnus...? She was married to Carl Blomquist, and they immigrated to NY in the 20' from Kristiansand Norway.
