Arrival of Ole Bull |
James E Heg | I just came across a record that shows Ole Bull plus 2 other Norwegians arriving Boston on Nov. 20, 1843. Only other info I have is NARA series M277, Roll 17. A new ship? Jim Heg |
Borge | Jim, did it not state the name of the ship? |
James E Heg | No, the ship's name was not given. I am searching some NAHA records on Ole Bull's visit. Jim |
jwiborg | Hi,
Ole Bull's trip in 1843 was his first America-visit. He also spent some months on Cuba during that trip, which inspired him to the work "Recuerdos de Habana". The world's premier violinist performed among other places in Young's Hall, a Milwaukee theater.
Ole Bull was very famous at that time, and had quite some money... It is said that Ole Bull during his lifetime spent some 1 million "riksdaler", almost 30 million US dollars compared to this days value... [:D]
But what ship did he go on? [:)] Bull lived in Bergen, so maybe he left from there?

James E Heg | I haven't found anthing about this voyage other than the NARA citations. I did "Google" Ole Bull and got some 43,700 hits! Most of them are in Norwegian, which I do not read very well. One hit was on the NorwayHeritage site. Maybe someone could try this route and find something Jim |
