| msp8 | My data listing "Berntine (20) & Konstanse Dahl ( 17) " my GGM emigrating to America on 23. 5. 1882 has brought no additional info. Have checked Passenger lists of connecting lines, from Trondheim-Christiansund-Aalesund-Hull . What should I check out now?
My info came from Norwegian Emigration Center .
their brothers came in 1874 and I was able to find them on connecting ship S.S. City of Chester, embarkation Liverpool.
Date of arrival June 15, 1874 Any help would be appreciated. |

Checking the Indexes on Norway Heritage, the agent in 1882 in Trondhjem was Carl Johnson and the shipping line National. It's route is indicated as Trondhjem to Hull to Liverpool, to New York and then on to the final destination in American.
Checking the Arrivals Index, there are two National Line Ships arriving on June 5 & June 6, 1882 in New York, the SS Queen and SS England. There is a good possibility they were on one of these ships or one a little later.
You can rent the Passenger Manifest microfilm nos. 102022 and 102023 for these arrivals at a Local Family History Center.
You can probably find the brothers in the "Digitalarkivet "Moving Out" registers and find more information. Good luck[:)] |

Did Constance and Berntine travel to Lanesboro Mn. by train and then on to North Dakota - Her brothers Hans, Anton & Oluf had farms near Grafton ND. No Berntine or Konstanse listed. According to the Emigrants from Trondhjem, Berntine would have been born approximately 1862, which would have made her three years old in the 1865 census and Konstance a newborn or not yet born. Berntine should have shown up in this census.
Do you know their exact birthdates?
What names did Hans, Anton and Oluf go by? Aalberg, Dahl, Christiansen?
If you look at the Emigrants from Trondhjem for Berntine and Konstance, it indicates that there ticket was pre-paid in America. They could have taken the train, there were many routes at different times. People moved around alot, they most likely went to Minnesota first and then, at some time, on to North Dakota.
Researching them in North Dakota through County History Books and local Historical Societies could give you some family history information.
Have you found the brothers in the 1880 census?
Since there is were no Federal census between 1880 and 1900, the state census would need to be researched. A local historical society or county historical society usually has this information and sometimes the films can be rented from a local Family History Center but you would have to research to see what is available.

Hans, Anton and Oluf are included in the index for the Walsh County History Book and there is a volunteer on the site who will do lookups.
They are also included on the North Dakota Naturalization Index accessible from this site.
Grafton was not settled until 1881 and Walsh County was originally part of Grand Forks.
Berntine and Konstance may have gone to Lanesboro, MN because there were jobs waiting for them, this was a common situation for single women and their tickets may have been paid for by the employers. |

| cprchrds1 | I have an old family tree with all 12 children of Kristian Aalberg and Antonette. The census you sent was done before last four children were born. I assume that these children went by Aalberg for a time then changed to Dahl. The last four children were Bernard and Berine twins Constance and Carl. Antonette died in Norway but Kristian came to the US. I found out from my husband that the Milwaukee road railroad went thru Lanesboro when he was a child so I have a few clues to follow up on - thanks for your help.

| Brining | Hi North Dakota has the 1885 census database on line [url="http://www.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/ndirs/bio&genealogy/index.html"]Click Here[/url] There was a Hans C. Dahl in Walsh County. The Naturalization database has an Anton C and Oluf filing first papers in Grand Forks County in 1879 and 2nd papers in Walsh in April of 1885. I don't know when the census was taken but they could have been in Grand Forks (which is one of the counties that isn't in the census database) at the time.

I have tried your link , then I go to Naturalization site and put in Dahl, Anton or Oluf then put in Grand Forks for the Co, Norway for Country of origin and my search results bring back nothing found. I was able to find Hans C. ,Oluf , and Anton C getting their second papers from Walsh Co. in 1885 . Perhaps, could you link to the page? Thank you for your time ... Refering to previous posts the girls Berntine was b. Feb,1864
and Constanse b. June, 1866 so yes "Berntine" should have been in the 1865 Census from Norway. Anton b. 1856, Oluf 1858, Hans b.1853
I will be travelling to Trondheim/ Oslo ( June ,04) area with some time in Oslo. Any suggestions as to places to look for info regarding my genealogy research? Maggie |

Dahl, Anton Dahl, Oluf or Dahl, Hans (be sure and use the comma) and don't fill in the county or country of origin you should get them to come up and it should show both listings for 1st and 2nd papers. If that doesn't work, let me know and I will copy and paste the info here.
