thelebrityCan you say anything about when they was born? approximately what year? If he was born before 1865 chances are good he might be found in the online 1865 census.
stefGunder Olsen died at 48 in 1914. Christian Josefsen married here in 1898,he was 26 years old. Hendry Robertsen died here in 1915,he was 47 years old. in a census of June 1891,he mentionned he was 23 years old,so he could been borned in 1867 or 1868. I have information that his family owned a mine but its just a rumor. I have a list of the boat that came here in that time and mostly came from Fredrickstad but once again noting is sure. I have a picture of Robertsen and Gunder Olsen. I know the census after 1865 is in 1900 and they were gone. I thing the best thing to do for me would be to go in norway and go check in the governement register were they keep information about all mariners. There was 7 district were they entered the name of mariners has they came to the office in norway. those special records was called sj o fartsannotasjonsruller or halvbefaren . Afters one years or at 22,they were transfered to sj o fartshovedrulle. tank you
stefI can't afford a trip in norway for many years so if you can help me it would be great! I plan to write their complete history in a book. the only thing i need is the boat's name Could you tell me where you live tank for your help

BriningHi I have a long shot for your great grandfather. I assumed that Hendry was a shortening of the name Hendrick/Henrik. On the LDS I found found a Henrik Robertson born in Tune, Ostfold in 1868 Click Here and I found the same Henrik listed in a family tree on line Click Here He is listed under number 134. Maren Julie Johansdatter. He is the last child in the list. The interesting thing is he is listed as perished at sea. Could it be that it was assumed that he died but he jumped ship? Ok it's time for the Norwegian's on the list to jump in. Here is the home page of the person who put the information on the net but it is all in Norwegian. Is it possible that he would have more information about Henrik or the ship he sailed on. It sure would be great if this was the correct person Carla
stefHi! Brining It's great that you find someting interesting that fast. For the one listed on the number 134, i see is borned in 1843,it's too early! Do you thing it's the same man ,son of Robert anton Hansen and borned in 1868. Could you show me where they specified that he perish at sea. tank a lot for your precious help !
BriningHi Yes the one I meant was their son 349. x Henrik Hansen #3532, f. 02-11-1968, Næs, Rolvsøy, 22-11-1868, Tune Krk. omkom til sjøs. The last 3 words say he perished at sea. He was born Nov. 2 (I'm sure it is suppose to be 1868 not 1968) in Næs, Rolvsøy and christened Nov. 22 1868 in Tune Kirk. His name is listed as Henrik HANSEN but following the Norwegian naming patterns he should be listed as Henrik ROBERTSEN (son of Robert) I hope you can get more information on this. Looking at the list there may be living descendents of one of the sisters. Carla
stefhi brining could it be possible to find someting on Gunder olsen, the third man on my list. meanwhile i will verify on Robertsen authenticity. tank you ,wish you the best for you and family !
maggiHello Canada! Gunder Sem (NB with an E) Olsen was baptized in Nøtterøy church, Vestfold, on 6th March 1866. Parents were as you said Olaus Olsen and Inger Marie Jacobsen. Nøtterøy is a country/coastal area just south of the town of Tønsberg. Tønsberg is on the west side of the Oslo fjord. (I live on the opposite side in Moss. ) His middle name SEM is also the name of an area nearby, so possibly his parents had connections there. I checked the 1865 census of Norway and there are TWO families in that county with parents Olaus Olsen + Inger Jacobsen, one in Nøtterøy and one in nearby Tønsberg, which confused me at first. But the Family Search cleared my doubt. The wife in the Tønsberg one had a middle name Gunilde. The couple Olaus Olsen + Inger Marie Jacobsen had also the following children (there may be more which aren't in the LDS database - you could check the church records - microfilm numbers 1282550 + 0278240 at your nearest LDS family History centre): Gunda Andrea chr. 7 Dec 1867 in Nøtterøy Elen Andrea chr. 25 Oct 1870 in Nøtterøy Olga Sofie chr. 26 Oct 1882 in Nøtterøy Olaf Lindal chr 6 Oct 1875 in Nøtterøy Olaus chr. 3 Nov 1873 in Nøtterøy Inga Marie (surname given as Olsen Sem) chr. 23 Nov 1877 Olaus and his family lived in Otterbæk Østre and he was a shipmaster and owned his own home. Couldn't find a connection to Fredrikshald (now known as Halden) for this family. But in the Tønsberg one the father came from Fredrikshald and the mother was born in Sem, so you might wish to check this one out as they could possibly have had a son Gunder after the census was taken. Unfortunately there is no 1875 census of Nøtterøy or Tønsberg to check and I have no microfilms for those parishes here. Wishing you good luck in your further search. Greetings from snowy Moss.
stefHello Maggi tank you for your information. the maritime inscription registers of seamens is it a good way to verify about those three mariners I read that in 1890,there was several district in norway where agent entered name of man as they show themselves at the office. Many information is in those registers. Is it hard to have those registers and is it the place i should start these research I have a lot information but where can i start to check them Greeting from snowy Quebec,Canada
