Halvorson from Telemark
HalvorsonI am looking for information on my gggf Jacob Halvorson born 1860, I believe Kregero, in Telemark county. Jacobs Wife, Kari (born 1860) of whom we have no other information other than in a1930 census I found a immigration date of 1866 from Norway ( thought to be Drangedal but no proof). Jacob Immigrated in 1881, He supposedly had two brothers and two sisters, we have no information On his family . Jacob and Kari were married September 16th 1886, Jacob and Kari eventually settled in Webster, South Dakota, and had three children, Henry A , Clarence, and Alice. Henry is my grandfather. Jacob Died in 1910. Kari Remarried , to Andrew A Sandvig. And moved to Fillmore, MN. From an ealier posting, I was given information from the Digitaialarkivet: 1865- telling (37553/24) Sandokedal Kragero Oxebaasen ( store) Halvor Hovers. 37 Aleth Jorgensd 44 Hover Halvors 15 Jorgen Halvors 10 Jacob Halvors 6 Gro Halvorsd 13 Ingeborg Halvorsd 8 Anne H Halvorsd 3 Torine Halvorsd 3 This information fits Jacobs age close enough to look forward, but verifications alludes me.( I would be grateful for any help and suggestions where to go with this information ). Erik Halvorson.
BriningYour best be is probably to see if this family is in the Sannidal bygdebok the farm is listed as Store Oksebåsen. Sannidal is the current name for Sandokedal parish listed in the census record. The bygdebok might tell you if and when anyone from this family emigrated This site will tell you about bygdeboks and where to find them. HalvorsonI have not been able to get into the bygdeboks from Kragero. The link seems to be down. Though I did find a list of immigrants, ( Immigrants from Kragero 1867, Kragero Genealogical page, by Pe Stian Bjonno Kjendal) That does list this family, with birth dates, (of which matches my ancestor Jakob). Further, I found the family listed in the 1870 census in Jackson county Minnesota. Here I have lost the trail. I really want corroboration to this family link. Any more suggestions. Also now that I have a immigration year I have been checking to find passenger lists for 1867 but no luck yet.
BriningHi Their emigration record is on this site sailing on the bark Kong Oscar Click Here The link to the bygdebok on line only leads to a listing of the farms in the book, you would have to rent the book from a library or find someone who does lookups. Try the Minnesota Genweb site Click Here Under surnames there is a halvorson and a haavelson listed which could be possibilties. On the BLM there is a HAAVEL HALVERSON listed filing in Kandiyohi county in 1871 Click Here The name they used in the US could have changed over time, Haavorson, Haverson, Halverson, Frovik, Frovig. Naturalization records would be another place to look. Hopefully you can find more on this family and connect it to yours. Carla
