Eliassen, Risdal store, Vest-Adger
prairiemamaI have been tracing the line of Peder Torjussen of Risdal store, Vest Adger, specifically Elias Pedersen's Children, Peder (b 14.01.1847 at some point he changed his birthdate for reasons unknown to us to 01.08.1849), we know he settled in Minn. in 1870, we do not have records of landing for: Anna( b. 01.04.1855), Ingeborg (Emma)( b15.12.1857) and Elias Martin (b09.05.1861) Eliassen. I have been unsuccesful in tracing the ships they left on for Minn. I have found two listings for Martin Eliassen (b 1860) on Digitalarkivet one with an Anna (b 1856) leaving Mar.15, 1876 from Kristiansand, but no ship listed and I am unable to find a corresponding ship landing in the USA. I have also found a Martin Eliassen 13696 399 1888 Mars 16 1603 Martin Eliasen m Sømand 1860 Kvaas Sogn Wisconsin Norge I do not have Ingeborg or Peder's port of departure, I believe it would be Kristiansand as it would be the closest to their farm. From what I have found out, it would seem Peder left first, Ingeborg left second, followed by Anna and Martin. However by the records above, if this is the same Martin, then it would seem, he did a stint with the navy before continuing to the USA. If someone were able to help me find sailors records, then I might be able to trace if this is our Elias Martin Eliassen. I also would appreciate info on why it is that sometimes I can get into a Digitalarkivet site, and then not be able to find the same site again, listing the people I found before. I have since learned to copy and paste immediately. I would appreciate any words of wisdom in helping me to continue my search...thanx...jan
BriningHi Their emigration year should be in the US census if you can find them there. Probably the best source would be the microfilmed records which are available at the LDS. On the Digitalarkivet, if you are bookmarking a search page (a list of individuals you are searching for but haven't clicked through to the final page) the bookmark won't mark the search. Carla
prairiemamaCarla: Thanks for your help. I will keep looking. I did find the list of sailors and military. The Martin that is a sailor is the wrong Eliassen. ...jan
