1866 Liverpool - New York Arrivals
James E HegFor what it is worth - I have found 103 Norwegians arriving NYC from Liverpool in following ships: HARVEST QUEEN, 4 June 1866 26 from Norway: SS NEW YORK, 30 July 34 from Norway; HIBERNIA, 11 August 5 from Norway; 30 August WILLIAM TAPSCOTT 30 from Norway; EMERALD ISLE 6 August 4 from Norway (Jacob Johanson & family of 3). The other 4 were singles. Jim
BorgeThanks Jim Would you by any chance have the possibility to get copies for transcription?
James E HegBørge - Yes I can copy by ship. Some of the name transcriptions are pretty far out but the names may assist you in your work. I'll copy and send by mail. Hilsen Jim
James E HegBørge - I copied 1866 and believe I got most of them. I then looked at 1868 and almost could not believe it! Something on the order of 1200 Norwegians arriving NYC! I copied all but one ship, MANHATTEN (program would not recognize). I am sending these along as well. The ships are: JOHN BRIGHT, CITY OF WASHINGTON, FRANCE, CITY OF BALTIMORE, CITY OF BOSTON, PENNSYLVANIA, and COLORADO. No info on the ships but you can probably get some from the <shipslist>. The names indicate they all belong to one or two lines. I then copied 1867 - a very slow year. Ships: ALEX D MARSHALL, CITY OF BOSTON, CITY OF BALTIMORE, SCOTIA, MALTA, TARIFA, VIRGINIA, and RUSSIA (Ole Bull is the only passenger from Norway). Two comments. 1. There must have been a real manpower shortage in Norway in 1869; 2. Your transcribers have a lot of work to do. I hope this material does not discourage them. Med vennlig hilsen. Jim
