Passenger list 1851 - bark Sjofna
connierllooking for my great grand mother on a ships list. My grand father always said she came over in 1851 on the ship Sjofna. Her name was Mari Svensdatter/Svendsdatter Loeng. born 1831, Loeng farm Norway. I found this: Passenger list 1851 - bark Sjofna Captain Departure Arrival Source Søren A. I am thinking that this could be my gr grandmother Mari Loeng the age is correct. The name is very odd. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you for any help.
Jo Anne SadlerRecommend you read the articles on this site, especially, "Those Norwegian Names", it would answer your questions about naming practices. Her father's name was most likely Lorn or some variation of that. Hence, she is Lornsdatter.
