Ole Knudsen fra Leikanger
James E Heg	I am trying to help a friend trace his Grandmother. Here is what we know: Ole Knudsen married Catherine (or Kathrine) Andersdatter, May 5 1852 in Leikanger. Children: Knud B. 25/03/1853; Britha B.14/10/1855; Anne4 b. 14/03/1858: Marthe b. 19/18/1860; Katrine b. 09/10/1864; Anders B. 16/11/1867. Film 0123141 Census Norde Bergehus 1865 (film HF 112 books 315-318 Hougens Stolediftrift Lekangers) Sogn Lekandgers Broeftegield 31 DEC 1865 Ole Knudsen aage 44 Husfasrer Hors und mar jon Kathrine Andersdatter age 40 huskone Knudt Olsen age 13 son Britha olsdatter 11 dau Anne Olsddatter 8 dau Marthe Olsdatter 6 dau Kathrine Olsdatter 1 dau Now it gets complicated. The family, less Knut (m Gunhild Iversdtr Nov 12, 1872) and Anders (apparently died prior to 1865 census) migrated to America. Date unknown, port of departure unknown, port of arrival unknown. Ole Knudsen died enroute. The mother and 4 little orphans somehow arrive at and settle in Texas. The children were adopted by others. Our person of interest is daughter, Kathrine. New York arrivals yield nothing. Ancestory.com census records yield nothing. Can any information be found in Norway records about emmigration permits, pasenger lists, etc that might help?

Verken b. 1862 died 19 weeks old <sic.> In 1884 Britha Olsd. b. 1855 Leikanger , Verken married Ole Kristens. b. 1860 Lyngstad In 1886 Anna Olsd. Verken b. 1858 moved from Leikanger to Jostedalen Church records of deaths: 6/6 1869 k Kathrine Olsd. Verken (Grinde) hmd b. 1864 7/7 1885 m Ole Knuds. Verken gaardmand b. 1822 19/11 1909 k Katrina Andersd. Verken kaarkone e b. 1826

James E Heg	I am going to need more help with this one. Would someone please translate the 3rd line in NinaKarls response so we can understand about Anders return to Norway from Wisconsin? Also,the church records of deaths seem to contradict the family "folk tale" about the family's migration. The lady we are looking for (Kathrine Olsdatter) seems to have died in Norway on 6/6/1869. The birth date checks with the records with which we started. It appears that the father, Ole Knudsen, also died in Norway. (Birthdate checks within a year.) The mother, who supposedly brought the family to America also appears to have died in Norway. The data I submitted matches Nina's response but does not seem to be a family that migrated, except for Anders (#2)[:(] Jim

He has been married 17 years, his wife is from Wisc. so it doesn't look like he emigrated to Texas and he would have been an adult when he came. Carla
Jo Anne Sadler	The 1928 information is from the Bergen emigration register, can't make the link work. Snekker means - cabinetmaker, carpentry, building. Under "Reason" - Nei Besøk her siden is confusing - No visit here since 29/5/28. This is a future date. The 1908 listing shows him leaving on February 18, an odd time of year to visit. [:0]
ninakarls	I made a look-up and found this family in the farm- and family history of Leikanger. No indication of emigration. Maybe we should try from scratch? Why do you think the family in the census is the right one?
