Jakob and Bjarne Andersen
busyguytodaySearching for information on Jakob and Bjarne Andersen who came to America about 1906. The brothers were born in Stavanger, Jakob 1886 and Bjarne 1889, and the family story is that they worked on a ship and when they got to New Jersey, they jumped ship and entered the country illegally. I have been unable to locate them as mariners or even as passangers. Their father, my great grandfather, was Salve Andersen, a ship's captain and an exporter/importer. I have been unable to locate any information on him as well. I would appreciate any help of any kind.

HopkinsSalve Andersen in the 1865 census - http://draug.rhd.isv.uit.no/ftsoek/ftsoek.asp?kommando=bosted&ftaar=1865&spraak=engelsk_britisk&kommnr=1150&kretsnr=0013&bostnr=0089&leilnr=000 his father was Jakob Anderssen and they resided in Skudeneshavn (but he was born in Rennesøy, Rogaland), he married Anna Marie Salvesdtr - sister to my own great grandfather.
JohanmaBjarne and Jakob Andersen were cousins of my father. Bjarne arrived the US on 18 March 1907 (Ellis Island). He should visit his uncle Hagbart Haga, Iowa. My name is Johan M. Andersen and I am living in Stavanger where Jakob and Bjarne grew up. Their father Salve died in 1916. He had a brother, Jakob, who died unmarried in the US. His other brother, Anders, my grandfather, had three children (two unmarried sisters and my father). Salve also had a sister, Mette Malene. Her family is living in Skudeneshavn.
HopkinsHagbart Hage (baptised as Johan Hagbart Hage, 26 Aug 1860) was living in northwest Iowa in 1907, probably in either Clay or Dickinson counties. Hagbart would have been a married man by 1907 and his first son, Selmer Martin Hage, should have been about one year of age when Bjarne visited. Hagbart and his family later moved to Minnesota. Quite nearby in 1907 would have been several more Hage cousins - Hagbart and Anne Marie's brother Jens Hage was probably still living in Buena Vista County, Iowa. But I've never determined exactly when Jens and his family moved to Minneapolis/St. Paul twin cities area of Minnesota. In addition, one of the children of another brother of Hagbart and Anne Marie was then living in Buena Vista County - Alma Hage, the oldest daughter of Jakob Andreas Hage. Her brother Sigurd Hage emigrated to northwest Iowa in 1907 - leaving Norway in November and arriving in Ellis Island 6 Dec 1907. I have been in contact with at least a couple of American descendants of Jens Hage AND Hagbart Hage. One of them has a large collection of very old and unidentified family photos. We have working to try to play "detective" and sort out which name might go with which face... As you noticed we never had any contact again from the original poster of this thread, "busyguytoday", so I've never made contact there. If you have any interest in contacting "American cousins", let me know here and I will try to contact you.
JohanmaI am writing a story about my great grandfather Jakob Andersen (b. 1830), the brother-in-law to your great grandfather. I would be interested in more information about this American part of the descendants of Salve Haga and would appreciate your help. I have a picture taken in Cedar Rapids, Iowa of Jakob Andersen. I thought it was my great grandfather b. 1830, but it may well be his nephew, brother of Bjarne.
HopkinsI'm sending private email directly to you and will contact other "American cousins".
