FAMILY HISTORY OF MITHUEN'S AND MATHISON'S
debturnerHi everyone, Hopefully someone out there can help my sister and I. We are trying to do the family history on the MITHUEN'S and the MATHISON'S. We know that both families are orignally from Norway, but we don't know the farm name for either of them, or the whereabouts of the original family homes...............or what cities they originally came from. So if anyone out there could help point us in the right direction, or if you know the farm name, or the cities................it would be greatly appreciated. If this would be any help, here are our grandparents names, however we do not have our great-grandmother's maiden names, or the year they were married to their spouses, or the year they travelled to America, but we do know that they made their new home in America.............in the state of Wisconsin..............one in a town by the name of Brookville and one in the town of Spring Valley. Hopefully this is something someone will remember, or may even have some letters that were written home(Norway) and may have even mentioned their names. The names are as follows: MITHUEN: Iver or Ivar married Carrie Knutson, and MATHISON: Ole married Aagot. We are interested in anything that sounds close to the names and spelled close to the names.
askeroiMithuen isn't a norwegian word. The closest I get is farms called Midthaugen, but that doesn't sound convincing to me, and there's no couple Iver/Ivar and Kari on any of them in 1865 or 1900. In these two cencus I can't find any couple Ole Mat(h)is... and Aagot in any spelling either - and there are just too many couples Ole + Aagot. And I do not know WHEN to look for them. Do you suppose any of these lived in Norway in 1900? In 1865? In 1801?
HopkinsI can almost recall several small locations in Norway that might be 'Americianized' to be later spelled as "Mithuen" - but can you add some dates? askeroi is absolutely correct - we really need some date references. When were each of these persons born? when did they emigrate from Norway? You say that made new homes in America -- where was that? a particular state? do you know the county too? There are a number of us that would be thrilled to find the right persons in Norway - but can you provide additional identifying information please.
SvanhildThere are many farms named Midthun and Midtstuen. Appr. years of birth would help to locate your ancestors,
BriningHi In the 1910 census MATTSON OLE A 49 M W NORW WI ST CROIX EAN GALLI In the actual census record Mattson could be Mathison Ole married 18yrs 1st marriage immigrated 1881 Aggit wife age 36 1st marriage 5 children born and living immigrated 1881 Carla
