Lydia Ovre Lien, Kristiana, Norway
jderkSeeking any information about Lydia Ovre, b. ABT 1844; died ABT 1875 in Kristiana. She married Halvor Lien and had three children, including my GGGM. Seeking information about their marriage and her passing. Thank you.
HopkinsYou just received a really detailed response about this couple on the Rootsweb message board where you had posted a query. Seems you have a cousin doing the same research! Lucky you!
BriningHi It looks like you received lots of good information at rootsweb. Lydia probably died in childbirth in Trondhiem (just an educated guess.) The LDS has this record HALVORSEN LIE, Axel Laurits Christening Gender: Male Birth Date: 16 Nov 1875 Christening Date: 28 Nov 1875 Recorded in: Trondheim, Sor-Trondelag, Norway Collection: Vor Frue; Den Norske Kirke Father: Halvor LIE Mother: Lydia Marie OVRE Source: FHL Film 126840 Dates: 1870 - 1883 In the 1875 census click here Halvor is a widower and Axel is not listed and neither is Marine. In the 1865 census your GGGM is listed as a foster child Click Here It looks like Marine was Lydia's sister. Carla
jderkWow. Thank you so much. Give a newbie a hint...how did you find that in the LDS? I found her but not the child. Give me some search hints if you have the time. Thanks again for helping!! Looks like your 1865 link is same as 1875 but I am working on it. I can't seem to find them in 1875. If anyone can translate, I would like to know the definitions of: Fostbarn Gaardeier Sergeant Indlogerende Arbeider i Phines Fabrik
BriningI fixed the link, I usually check before I post, must have been asleep on the job [:I] As to the LDS I cheat [:p] I have the Vital records index on CD rom so can search on any field, makes it much easier. One trick I do know on the LDS. When you find a person and you click on the batch #, it will bring up a new search page and you can search on any field ie. mother's first or last name. You are searching only in that batch but can be helpfull. The batches are usually in a year range and for one parish. Fostbarn = fosterbarn or fosterchild Gaardeier = farm owner Sergeant I'm not sure but maybe a Sargent in the military Indlogerende = rents a room?? Arbeider i Phines Fabrik = worker in Phines Factory Here is a link to a Norwegian dictionary that will help Click Here Carla
jderkThank you again. What is the best way to determine the cause of death so long ago? Church records? Can that be done remotely? Jim
BriningHi Jim Yes the church records would be the best but it may not list the cause of death. You can rent the microfilms from the LDS, hopefully there is one near you Carla
modani1I'm Jim's cousin, Monica. I have a dob for Maurine of 1867 which matches the date for Kjerstine in the 1875 census. Our great-aunt, Maurine's youngest daughter, never mentioned an Inga or a Kjerstine. Maurine and a twin brother were born in 1867, and he drowned sometime before immigration (Carrie Burke Hoppenjan). I think the Amanda is Carrie Amanda (my notes give that as her name in the 1920 census for Dubuque, Dubuque County, Iowa. Theoretically, the girls could be listed by their second names in the 1875 census. Also, where is their brother Harald (Harold) in the 1875 census? I've never found him, but a later bio of him from Idaho says he immigrated with his father and sisters in 1884. He definitely lived in Idaho for more than 15 years before he too disappeared completely.
HopkinsA response to one of your cousin's posts on the Rootsweb Norway message boards linked to the Digitalarkivet emigration databases showing Harrald/Harold leaving with father and two sisters from port of Trondheim in 1884 - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=EMITROND&variabel=0&postnr=39512&fulle=true&spraak=e
BriningIn Harald Lee's biography Click Here it mentions that he lived with his Aunt & Uncle until he came to America. On the Digitalarkivet there is one Harald born the correct year living with Eric and Marine Hugaas. Marine is the correct age for Lydia's sister so this is a possibility. He is listed as their son but the census is not 100% accurate. Click Here There is an obit listed for Helen Anderson COLWELL Eugene daughter of Harold and Ella Lee Click Here If you get a copy , it might give more info on Harold and Ella and where they went after Idaho.
