change of names |
vjoan | Using the digitalarkivet, I found my grandparents names listed as saeteren, in june of 1910. Their agents name was Bennett and the ship was the Aaro out of Norway. I cannot find them arriving at ellis island. My question is would they arrive with the same name they had purchased their tickets in? Sounds strange but???

Borge | Hi vjoan
Charles Bennett was the agent of 5 different lines in 1910.
Allan & State Line (my tip!)
Pacific Line
Penisular & Oriental Line
Royal Mail Line
Union-Castle Line
My tip is that they had tickets on the Allan Line, as that was the most popular of the lines he represented. His authorization was:
Conveyance of emigrants via Hull to Liverpool and from there to New York or Boston, and to Quebec or Montreal
The Allan Line opreated the following lines in 1910:
Glasgow - Philadelphia
Glasgow - Portland - New York
Glasgow - St Johns - Quebec - Montreal
Liverpool - Halifax - St John
Liverpool - Quebec - Montreal
London - Quebec - Montreal
You should start looking for a Canadian arrival (Quebec), as that is the most used route, then maybe Boston or Philadelphia
Btw, the e-mail you registered is not working: (VJSluder@msn.c)

vjoan | My correct email address is VJSluder@msn.com I am sorry for that.I have been working on finding the ships name my grandparents took leaving england. AS I said they were on the arro out of norway, how do I go about finding the ship they boarded in england?

Borge | You have to start looking at passenger lists. If you can't find them at the Ellis Island site of arrivals to new York, I would start looking for a Canadian arrival first. You will find a lot of info regarding this in this article about "Hunting Passenger Lists":
