M.G. Nyman - Stavanger | |
jeberly | I am trying to get more information on my ancestor's line, circa. 1850 in Stavanger, Norway. All I have is names (type and size) of ships owned, but nothing else. Company name: M.G. Nyman Mathias Gustav Nyman who owned the following: slup <<Ellida>> bark <<Franziska>> skonnert <<Ladegaard>> slup <<Caprice>>, <<Kjøkkelvik>> fregat <<Undine>> jagt <<Argo>> skonnert brig <<Alexander>> galeas <<Caprice>> skonnert brig <<Rask>> was a partner in the following: skonnert brig <<Amazon>> fregat <<Stavanger>>, <<Superb>>, <<Oregon>>, <<Birma>> skonnertskip <<Fides>>, <<Saphir>>, <<Alata>> Johan Erik Nyman who owned the following: skonnert brig <<Alexander>> bark <<Alata>> skonnertskip <<Fri>>, <<Krone>> bark <<Diana>> skonnerskip <<Ideal>>, <<Johanne>> bark <<Edwin & Lizzy>> Any information would be much appreciated. I am most interested in what happened to them and when the Nymans sold (lost) their interest in them. Takk. |
Hopkins | Johan Erik Nyman and his family appear in the 1865 Norwegian census for the city of Stavanger - http://draug.rhd.isv.uit.no/ftsoek/ftsoek.asp?kommando=bosted&ftaar=1865&spraak=engelsk_britisk&kommnr=1103&kretsnr=0347&bostnr=0347&leilnr=000 His occupation is listed as merchant/businessman, approximations of their birthyears are included in that source. How did you happen to find the list of the ships names connected to your ancestor(s)? (I've a similar situation nearby and have been wondering where such things might be found. I've been struggling through probate records so far without success.) |
jeberly | quote:Thanks. Pretty much have the basic genealogy wanted more business information. There is a story one went down in the Great Lakes...Have a little more on the <<Undine>>. Anyway information was listed in a Norwegian book on the Nyman family: <<SLEKTSBOK for Stavanger- og Haugesundfamilien NYMAN (NYMANN)>> Though it's written in Norwegian it's been very helpful. Originally it was written in 1915 or 17 and updated in 1970's. Good luck finding your own goldmine. [:)] Thanks again. |
