Soren Oleson/Stadsvold
heffernanmlHi! I am looking for information on when my GGrandfather Soren Oleson emigrated to the U. S. The only information that I have so far, I obtained from his obituary in 1909, and hopefully it will be enough to allow me to continue with my research. Soren Oleson(changed to Stadsvold in the U. S.) was born in Lanspresdjeld, Norway, August 24, 1829, and came to America with his parents, two sisters and a brother, in 1847, locating at Rock Prairie, Wisconsin, where the family resided four years and then came to Jefferson township, Allamakee, Iowa. I realize this isn't alot of information, but I am hoping someone can either find some clues in Norwegian databases, or point me in the right direction to keep looking. Thank you ! Mary
Hopkins"Lanspresdjeld" might actually be Land Prestegjeld (Land clerical district) in Oppland, Norway. The 1801 Norwegian census lists a farm in Land which was then known as Stadsvolden and young married man by the given name of Ole is living there.
gthorudSøren's parents were Ole Johnsen and Marte Sørensdatter, that lived at Rudseie (a cottars farm being part of the farm Rud) in Torpa in Land prestegjeld (=parish), in Nordre Land Municipality (=kommune) in Oppland county(=fylke). Parents married 3 Decmeber 1820 groom 31 years lived at Bondlieie (cottar farm on the farm Bondlie) and bride at Ruud 25 years. See also http://rootsweb.com/~mnlandgs/ Also, one posibility, Søren could have lived at Stadsvold before he emigrated.
gthorudMarte was the daughter of Søren Nilsen, farmer at "Nordre Rud" (Northern Rud) christened 1760 died 1836 married 1785 to Berit (or Berte) Olsdatter born ca 1751 died 1829 according to the book "Boka om Land" volume 9 page 312. Also another name on the farm Rudseie is most likely "Øvre Bakke" (Upper Bakke). Søren's parents were Nils Sørensen christened 1732 died 1777 and Kari Torgersdatter from Løken in Hov (Søndre Land?) christened 1737 died 1802. More ancestors back to early 1500 in the book. Ole Jonsen (christened 1790) was from Bondli in Nordsinni in Nordre Land, should be in volume 8 of "Boka om Land" and also in the 1801 census.
