Hans Bjorkley, Ingabord Flatten
BjorkleyI am looking for my grandfather and Grandmother who emigrated to Rugby ND. Hans was born in 1880 and Ingabord was born around then too. Paula Bjorkley Carlson
HopkinsAdditional date information should help persons who would like to assist in the search for these persons. The 1920 US census for Pierce County North Dakota lists Hans Bjorkley as being 39 years old and having emigrated in 1903. Ingeborg is listed as 33 years old and emigrated in 1905. The 1920 census for the same county lists the same emigration dates for each, but the last name is then written as Bjorkly.
HopkinsSorry, I meant the second mention of a census to indicate that it was from the 1910 census.
BriningYou need to get more information in the US to help find them in Norway. You should get copies of their marriage certificate, death certificates, obituaries, and any birth certificates for their children. Also copies of naturalization papers. Any of these could give their parents name. You would need to know Ingabord's maiden name in order to locate her. There is one possibility for Hans in the 1900 census Click Here and this appears to be him emigrating from Oslo Click Here but without more information there is no way to know for sure. Carla
BjorkleyIngabord Flaaten was married to Hans Bjorkley. Flaaten was her maiden name. They had 6 children--Signe, Anna, Paula, Anna, Henry and Ingvald(Skip). Henry is my father. Ingabord died young after giving birth to Ingvald (Skip).
BjorkleySorry--I listed Anna twice. Inga was the other daughter. My husband and I are traveling to Finland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway in July. I am trying to find grandparents before then so I do some more research while there. Paula Bjorkley Carlson
BriningOops I tend to concentrate on the message body and missed the header with Ingabord FLATTEN. There is one possibility for her in the emigratants from Oslo Click Here probably a pretty good bet since she is going to ND. This is probably her living with her mother in the 1900 census Click Here in Vaage, Oppland Norway You should read some of John Føllesdal's articles to help in your search. BjorkleyHello once again! Thanks for all your help. I am now looking for Ronnaug Flatten born around 1880-1890. She also ended up in North Dakota. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Paula Bjorkley Carlson
HopkinsMay 6th in this thread 'Brining' sent you a link to what was probably the emigration register entry for Hans. You'll see Ronnaug Flatten listed with him on that link. It gives at least an approximation of birth year and possibly birthplace. Sel should be a subparish area of Vågå in Oppland.
jwiborgHi, servant Ronnaug Pedersen Flaaten, 21 years old, last residence Fetsund, arrived at Ellis Island on March 21, 1903, sailing from Liverpool. click here for manifest She is listed as no:16 in the manifest. Hans Simensen Bjørkli is listed as no:10 on the same ship. Final dest for both is Barton (?) North Dakota. Hans is going to his cousin (...) Skjerve, while Ronnoug is going to her aunt Ingeborg Skjerv.... Was Ronnoug and Ingeborg Flaatten sisters? If so, this could be them... //Jan
BjorkleyHello once again! Thanks for your information concerning my relatives. You say that Hans Bjorkley and Ingebord Flaatten are on the 1920 census but when I check this, it does not list them. Can you tell me where you got your information? Paula Bjorkley Carlson
HopkinsPierce County, North Dakota. They are listed in 1920 with 6 children living at home. I often have online access to some census indexes and thusly to scanned images of census pages through the goodwill of my State archives.
BjorkleyHello! ---any chance you could download that page of the census that lists the 8 Bjorkley's or Bjorkly's? Paula Bjorkley Carlson
HopkinsNo, sorry.
Jo Anne SadlerThe microfilm for this census can be rented at a local Family History Center or on interlibrary loan.
BriningHi Paula I can download that as a PDF file. I will try and do that tonight. Carla
BjorkleyThanks so much for all your help. The web pages here in the USA don't seem to be to much up to date. Yours seem to be so much more current. Your willingness is help is refreshing just as I found with all my Scandinavian relatives. Paula Bjorkley Carlson
BjorkleyI know you can't show me the page where Hans Bjorkley's family is listed in the 1920 North Dakota census but can you tell me if his wife's name was Ingabord or Ronnaug? Thanks! Paula Bjorkley Carlson
BriningHi Paula I have the census in PDF format but need your email address so I can send it to you. Click on the envelope at the top of this post or click on my user name to send me an email. I will be able to reply to that and attach the census. I have had some trouble with my email so if you have tried to send me one before try again. Carla
BriningHi Paula I just sent the PDF file. Thought I would post it here just in case the email gets lost in cyberspace. If you don't get it let me know. Carla
