What should we do next?
jwiborgHi Børge, I think this site looks great! [:)] I have one question though...., is it possible to mark each "contribution" in a topic with its own sequence number? So that you start with (1), and then just step the counter for each reply so that my reply here would be (3)... That would make it much easier to refer to a special reply... [:)] The sequence number could for instance be in the header, where you have the "posted" date. //Jan
AdminJan That is a good idea, I see the point. I will put it on the "to do" list, but I don't know if or when we will be able to implement it.
jwiborgOk, the idea is taken from how they do it in each topic at Digitalarkivet's WebDebate... [:)] //Jan
HopkinsI was looking for a link to the "guidelines" for posting to the forums... am I overlooking something right in front of my face or has that slipped from the new page layouts and design features (which I admit are really quite admirable - good job!).
BorgeThanks Hopkins, and yes, you are overlooking the link. On the top of every table when you post a new topic or reply to a topic - just above where it says "Screensize" (except for in the quick reply table at the end of every topic)
jwiborgAt the main page, scroll down to "ABOUT THE WEB SITE" and click the link News, Updates & Announcements... [:)] There you'll find a link to the Posting Guidelines. //Jan
HopkinsThe advice to look above 'Screensize' really had me confused for a bit... I always post using 'Quick Reply' - but I wandered about experimenting with other options and did finally find that display.
askeroiHi Børge Great "new" site. But I wonder what where you doing when you created this topic that nobody else does when they create their's? I ask because THIS topic fits the screen perfect, but all the others(?) continue far out to the right of the screen...
Borgeaskeroi That's new to me, all the posts fits perfectly on my screen. What kid of scereen do you have, and what browser do you use? Sounds like some kind of wrap problem
askeroiI'm using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 - it was included on the PC when I bought it before easter. This opic, for instance, is much too broad for me: "I don't have much info, what can I find out?" I do not anything different when opening that one from this one. But the difference is L-A-R-G-E... [:o)] (I suppose I'm a clown for not fixing this, but...)
BorgeIt might have something to do with your settings for IE (Verktøy - Alternativer for internett). Try to alter the multimedia settings and see what happens. If this is a common problem I would like to hear about it.
Jo Anne SadlerI have Windows 98 with Internet Explorer Version 6.0 and the new format works just fine on my system.[:p]
BorgeThe resizing or wrapping of the topic table width has nothing to do with the upgrade, as nothing was changed in connection to that. It must have another explanation.
askeroiAnd I who thought you had done a change to the better (in this connection) as preveiously "all" topics turned out too wide. Then came this topic at suitable size... It's not a big problem, I've lived with it for many years. I just got so happy when I, for once, didn't have to "scroll" sidewise all the time... [:I]
BriningAskeroi Is it all topics or only the ones that have a long link, like the ones to the Digitalarkivet, in them? On my browser when a link is long the topic table expands so the link is on one line. If a Hyper link is used (the button with a circle and link on it) the table stays normal size. Don't know if this helps but might explain what is happening.[:)] Carla
askeroiNo, it's not all topics. And a quick glance at the top ten topics seems to show that you're right. It doesn't help, Carla, but I'm glad somebody else have noticed the "problem" - it wasn't just me (my computer). This is, as said before Bjorge, not important. But the "narrow" topics make life easier... [:D]
BorgeCould you give me an example of a topic that wraps to fit your screen, and one that don't? I think Carla is probably right, when people do not insert a text as a description when posting a link, but inserts the entire address as description, this will happen.
askeroiTHIS topic is an example of one that fits. One that doesn't is "I don't have much info, what can I find out?" Yours
jwiborg...so if we do like this; http://www.rhd.uit.no/ftsoek/ftsoek.asp?kommando=bosted&ftaar=1865&spraak=engelsk_britisk&kommnr=1003&kretsnr=0149&bostnr=0149&leilnr=000 , this page doesn't fit anymore? Just to confirm the theory, I can remove this link again afterwards... [:)] //Jan
BorgeYes, that's it, and now it doesn't fit my screen either. [B)]
