jennyarrowhi all, i am looking for any information on my great grandfather, his name is Jorgen olson/olsen, his parents names were Ole Paulson Kalstadkileu and Johanne Margretlie Petterdatter, he was born 16.5.1843 at Sannidal his siblings names are Paul,Johan Peter, there are 2 sons with this same name, 1 was born 9.1.1824 the other 12.10.1826,maybe the first one didn't survive, Hans Marcus, Dorthea Catherine, Johann Olaus, and twins Ingeborg Marie and Iver Paulson, my Grandfather was the Youngest of these children, he left home at the age of 11 years he went to sea as a cabin boy, he arrived on Australian shores in 1862, he continued to sail up and down the eastern coast of New South Wales until he married my Grandmother in 1882, have no names of any ships he was on but I do have what looks like permission to leave Norway in 1854 which fits in with him going to sea at the age of 11, this document has a stamp on it which reads, Sannidal Sogneprestemsede, hopeing someone can help, Jennyarrow
jwiborgHi, here is some info about the place you're looking for: The farmname is Kalstadkilen, and is situated in Sannidal, an area which now is under Kragerø muncipality in Telemark county. Here is the census information: County: Telemark Parish (1801): Sannikedal Parish (1865): Sandøkedal og Skaadø Parish (1900): Skåtø Kalstadkilen is [probably] a small farm under the main farm Kalstad. There are two Kalstad farms in the area, Kalstad nordre and Kalstad søndre (ie. Kalstad north & Kalstad south). I've also seen the spelling Calstad and Karlstad in some churchbooks for Sannidal church Unfortunately, this online book only covers the years 1702-1802. The churchbooks for your period (1803 -> ... ) are not yet online, and thus only available on microfiche. The document from Sannidal Sogneprestembede is from Sannidal parish church, and probably written by the parish priest himself. A copy of this record could then probably be in the Sannidal churchbook for 1854. The churchbook contains records of people moving out of the parish. //Jan
jwiborgHi again, this is just assumptions, but these people could be Jørgen's siblings:

Try to contact Bob Lee boblee@mato.com, who have the Sannidal Og Skatøy Bygdebok published in Kragerø in 1950. He will do lookups and might find your people... ... and here is an interesting link from the area... [:)] //Jan
jennyarrow[:D]thank you very much for all your help, your answers were very helpful. cheers from australia.
jwiborgNo problem... [:)] According to Norwegian spelling traditions at that time, their names would probably have been spelled like this: Jørgen Olsen parents: Ole Paulsen Kalstadkilen Johanne Margrethe Pedersdatter [or Pettersdatter] place: Kalstadkilen [=farmname], Sannidal, Telemark county I've not found his parents in the 1865-census...
