I'm looking for Lorwig, Norway
anderspineMy greatgrandfather immigrated from Oslo in 1860 and is said to be from Lorwig, Norway but I cannot find such a place. Do you know of such a farm/parish/town?
askeroiThe first thing that comes to mind is the town Larvik in Vestfold. There are several databases from that place on Digitalarkivet, but unfortunately none between 1825 and 1865 and that skips both their birth and their departure (if you're thinking about Lars Anton Anderson and wife in this topic, too). Sorry...
anderspineI found an aunt born in Lourvig, do you know where that is?
askeroiThis seems like yet another old spelling for the same place, Larvik in Vestfold. But when was this aunt born and what's her name? There certainly isn't any place called neither Lorwig nor Lourvig today. At least not in Norway. The last part of the name (vig, wig) are old spellings of today's vik, which means bay... Please to remember to give as much information as possible when you want help. Many places have changed name and spelling several times through the centuries. And: Nowadays there are rules to how a name (and everything else) are spelled. But this is a rather new "invention". It's less than a hundred years since we got spelling rules. It was a bit like trying to give your name through the telephone. If I do so I never get mine correctly spelled... [:)][:)]
anderspineShe (Amelia Anderson) was born 22 OCT 1853 in Lourvig (Larvik), Norway and died in the U.S.A. on 06 APR 1931. Her sister was Matilda b. 1864. Of course you probably read my other posting trying to find their parents, Lars Anderson and Osty Hansen. Your help would be greatly appreciated. anderspine@wcc.net
