| cathe | I now have Petronelle Holgersen married to my gggfather Tosten Jensen (*Thorsten Jensen Sander) 1931 in Strom, Sor Odal, Hedmark.
Petronelle Holgersen (*Petronelle Holgersdatter Moss) was born Feb 12, 1812 and christened Feb 23, 1812 in Strom, Sor Odal, Hedmark.
I am trying to find her parents:
Father: Holger Abrahamsen
Mother: Olea Olsd
I have tried the census for 1801 and been unsuccessful. I am beginning to see how really weird the naming system was - wow, strange.
(* = The names that are on the hand-written family tree done by my cousin, bless her heart.)

| Hopkins | The naming system was NOT weird. This was the patronymic naming system - common to a number of European countries. You learn to love it, having a number of advantages to the genealogist.
A leap of 12 years is a pretty long leap. Holger was not yet married, being only 16 years old --

[:I] Slap me silly if you have to......... Are you indicating that 'Abraham Moss' and 'Petronelle Rummelhoff' are the parents? If so where do 'Holger' and 'Olea Olsd' come from? Duh.......... an old blonde but, I get it honestly. Lol. Was talking to my mom this evening (the 100%'er) and she has more trouble with it than I do.

| askeroi | No Cathe, He's telling you that 'Abraham Moss' and 'Petronelle Rummelhoff' are Holger's parents - and that Holger was a 16 year old unmarried boy in 1801.

| Brining | Hi Cathy It does get confusing especially when you start understanding it and the the family you are linked to doesn't follow the patronymic naming system. I think what sometimes happened is a family would immigrate to Norway and would use a family name but after a generation or two it would be dropped and the patronmic name would take over.
Anyway there is a lot of information on this family at the LDS IGI [url="http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp"]Click Here[/url] and search on Abraham or Holger Moss and Petronelle Rummelhof and you will find more information. You are going to have to sort through it since there are a number of records and not all information is 100% accurate

that you sent me 'Hopkins'........... it appears as though there are 3 familes (maybe more) living on the farm. One is of particular interest............... Maria Christensd. She is listed as being Konens = possesive for of wife but, uaegte = illigitimate/born out of wedlock............ This is something that I am not able to understand. Wife of whom? Out of wedlock from whom? It really doesn't seem to be clear on those issuses. If it indicated that she was a maid/housekeeper....... I would understand.

| cathe | My mother's cousin in Norway sent me a lot of information in Norwegian and it's a very slow process trying to organize all of the stuff that I have accumulated. I am even trying translation software which helps a bit. Thorbjorn sent me a copy of a page from a book (maybe 2) that he has and I would like to buy them. I have tried a couple of sites. Not speaking the language is a pain in the but. The book is called "Slekt Folger Slekt" and it is non-fiction. Perhaps someone out there might have a lead? If so I would really appreciate it.
