Hansen West Coast New Zealand
kalleeHi to all or anyone looking for us. I was born on the West Coast New Zealand. Grandfather Allan Hansen, Grt Grandfather Anton Emile born in Denmark. Antons parents were Christian and Christina ( or Kirstine ) who arrived aboard the Palmerston in 1872 when Anton was only 18 months old. Helena Hart and Anton had six children. To Allan, in 1932 my father John was born in the family home in Birchfield, who was by then a 3rd generation Hansen miner and NZR railway man. There is a suggestion the name may have been formally spelt Hanson as well though I have not checked this out. After a snoop through the Greymouth Cemetary records, I located these unknown ( to me & my father anyway ) other Hansens buried there. There are more buried in Waimangaroa, unfortunately the cemetary records were burned in a fire. Hansens can also be found in the old Spreydon/ Simeon St Cemetary in Christchurch. Several having been killed in WW1 and earlier of unknown causes, most likely consumption. Asthma & a heart conditions are common causes of illness if that helps anyone. In my investigations of Maori History, ( my mother being Maori and also from Kawatiri ie: Westport ) I have located one Heni ( Jane ) Hansen this being some evidence that proves there may have been a much earlier migration of another Hansen who also married a Maori female from the North Island. I welcome any contact or questions regarding this name. Here are some cemetary records from the Westland NZ South Island region. Hansen. Peter Julius died March 2nd 1963 aged 63 ( cremated ) Hansen Henrick Died August 14th 1962 aged 78 Hansen Florence Christiana died Nov 2 1960 aged 71
