Westerlund
Margaret TempleI have an ancestor that emigrated to Austraila called Mathias Westerlund. He died about 1865 in his early twenties, leaving a son, and partner Lavinia Doram. It is thought he died at sea whilst whaling. This may be a clue to his occupation in Norway. I would be interested to hear from anybody who might have someone who emigrated before that time.[:)]
jwiborgHi, you've probably seen this; but just in case you haven't... click here There's only 2 persons called Westerlund / Vesterlund in the norwegian 1865 census. The only Westerlund is Anna Lovise, and she lives in county of Vestfold, Norway. She is from Sweden, so that could be the origin of the name... Maybe she could be a sister of Mathias? Vestfold was btw. the "whaling capital" at that time, especially around the city of Sandefjord.
