Karl Meldalsen
audioeI thank all the help eveyone has given me, I do have the info on Karl but it seems to stop with his family in Norway, Census year: 1900 Municipality: Vemundvik Municipality number: 1745 Name of domicile: Vika eller Johannesvika Number of persons in this domicile: 6. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name Family status Marital status Occupation Birth year Birth place Ethnicity Marie Kristiansdatter hm e Underholdt af Sømmann 1826 Vemundvik NT Karl Meldalsen hf g sømand mandskab omb. fjordbåd 1868 Fosnes NT Mari Eriksdatter hm g sømandskone 1871 Næsset Rom Emil Karlsen s ug søn 1893 Fosnes NT Meier Karlsen s ug søn 1896 Fosnes NT Bjarne Karlsen s ug Søn 1899.02.26 Fosnes NT Is there anyway to trace this further back? I think he had a brother named Anton. Thanks Again Erik Meldahl
askeroiYes, I suppose there is - The Meldal/Meldahl family can be traced back to Steen Evensøn (ca 1612-1680), reverend in Meldal around 1672 (this year his portrait was painted - and it's supposed to still be hanging in Meldal church...) Only problem is to find Karl's father and the connection to the family. Unfortunately the father is dead before 1900, the 1875 cencus is not on the net - and in 1865 Karl wasn't born yet. Neither is any church records for the area at the time. So I don't know how to help you connect you to the Melda(h)l family... But: there is one Anton Meldal in the 1900 cencus: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=f01748.wc2&variabel=0&postnr=1243&fulle=true&spraak=n And there is one Carl Magnus Meldal born 28. october 1866 (baptised in Fosnes 6. january 1867) in Family search wich fits very good to being "yours" : IGI Individual Record FamilySearch™ International Genealogical Index v5.0 Norway Search Results | Download | Pedigree -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CARL MAGNUS MELDAL Male -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 28 OCT 1866 Christening: 06 JAN 1867 Fosnes, Nord Trondelag, Norway Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: MELDAL VILHELMSEN Family Mother: ELEN PAULINE PEDERSDR And, according to the 1865 census a couple that looks very much like them does have a son named Anton: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=f61748&variabel=0&postnr=432&fulle=true&spraak=n But this is as far as I can get - at least at present...
BriningHi Erik In the LDS there is CARL MAGNUS MELDAL born in Fosnes Father: MELDAL VILHELMSEN Mother: ELEN PAULINE PEDERSDR Click Here Also in the same batch is LAURA JACOBA PEDERSEN Father: PETTER ANDREAS WILHELMSEN Mother: ELEN P. PEDERSDR Click Here I believe that Meldal and Petter are the same person. In the 1865 census Click Here He is listed as Peter A M (Meldal??) There is a son Anton so this also fits with your info. That plus the fact that in the 1900 census Carl is listed as born in fosnes makes me pretty sure that this is his family I don't know what relationship if any Marie Kristiansdatter is to Carl The 1875 census is available on microfilm at the LDS. If you could locate the family on that you could prove that this is the correct family Carla
audioeIt looks like I am at a dead end until the 1865 census comes out. I guess I was hoping that someone might have thier family traced back and see that there was a brother named Carl (Karl). Thank you so much.... Erik Meldahl
