Birth Record of Louis Gilbertson
LGilbertson	I am looking for a birth record from Oslo, on my Great Grandfather, his name was Louis Gilbertson, I am not sure of when he was born, all the info I have is that he immegrated to the US the later to Canada, I was wondering if there is anyone that could or would be able to help me atttain this record.

LGilbertson	I think I may have found some info, but I may need some help or an explanation to why thi is, the file I found, stats that the man I named earlier as Louis Gilbertson, was actually known as Lauritz Gulbrandsen in Norway, is this actually possible, also I found on the same file that this mans father was name Gulbrand Larsen, was this common in Norway back then for the father and the son to have a different name? Can anyone help me with this or explain to me how to research this from here now.
askeroi	The answere to both questions are: Yes. You could call yourself anything when you came to the new world. And untill recently (sometime in the 1800s it was common for father and son/daughter to have "different names". Well, in fact, they did not have a steady surname. Lauritz Guldbrandsen means litturaly Lauritz, the son of Guldband. And his father was Gulbrand, son of Lars (which actually is the same name as Lauritz). LGilbertson	I found the records on familysearch.org, but the only problem is that I dont know wheather this is the same man or not, alot of the info stated matches what I have, but the month of the birth was different, and the spouse is Anna Gundersdr instead of Gunderson, but I think this might be a possible match, I have been trying to find a birth record, but for some reason, I am coming to a bunch of brick walls, does anyone know where I can get a birth record from Norway?
LGilbertson	I have also found that the father of Lauritz name was Gulbrand Larsen, but I am not sure if this is true or not this record was from the same place, it did not list the mother of him though.
Brining	Hi It looks like a possible match except that Anne was born in 1843 If you click on her name in Lauritz's record [url="http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/VR/individual_record.asp?recid=30472612&lds=4®ion=12®ionfriendly=Norway&frompage=99"]Click Here[/url] You will see information on her and the marriage was in 1877.(Gundersen is an Americanization of Gundersdr, Gundersdatter) Louis and Anne Gilbertson were married in 1888, probably in the US, according to the US census. This doesn't mean he is not the correct one since the Norway Anne could have died before or after Louis came to the US. LGilbertson	Need some more help here, after researching more, I have found that there was a Gilbert Larson that lived in Minnesota US, with a son named Lewis, spelled different, but the birth year is the same. Is there anyone that could please help me on getting or pointing me in the direction to get a birth certificate of someone that was born in Norway. I am not sure if these are the same men as previouly mentioned in my posts or not, but I have a good feeling it is, I have also noticed that the name GIlbertson is spelled Gilberson, not sure if that makes a difference or not.
