Gustave Adolphe Anderson
eurasiandavidI would be grateful if somebody could check if this person exists in the Norweigian Census records? I have a marriage certificate of a Vera Alice Anderson dated 1st Feb 1934 for a marriage in Shanghai, China to a Islay Ferrier Drysdale. She was aged 24 years and her father was listed as Gustave Adolphe Anderson. His occupation was a "Missionary" If his daughter was born c.1910....he is probably born in the 1880s as an approximation. To be honest I am not sure if he is Norweigian but I would be grateful if any kind person could check if they have the time and means. Many thanks.
jwiborgHi, I think you will need more information before you can search the online Norwegian 1900 census. A quick search revealed that there are over 500 persons named Gustav Andersen (incl. o lot of different spellings!) in the Norwegian 1900 census. Adding "Adolf, Adolph, Adolv" to the Firstname cuts down the hits to 54 persons, but he might be listed as just Gustav in the census, so it not so easy... [:)] Born 1870-1890 reduces the hits to 34..., but still; this is too difficult if you don't have any other info such a residence, birthyear, marriage... I could find only 1 person named Gusta*** who is a missionary in the census, his name is Gustav Rosaas Btw; "Gustav Adolph" is a very "classic" Swedish name, maybe you should try your search there? Anderson is also a swedish spelling, in Norway it would be spelled Andersen. Jan
eurasiandavidJan, Thank you very much for looking up the data on my behalf. It is clear I will need to get more information (he might he even be Swedish as you suggested). As I got the marriage certificate today, it may be some time (if ever?) before I find other information. I'll see if there are any Swedish missionary organizations as such for me to track down this Gustave for example. Cheers David
askeroiIs this Anderson in any way related to the Anderson in the "Japan" topic?
mrussell8080Vera Anderson was my grandmother my great grandfather Gustav Anderson was Sweadish. Gustav was indeed a missionary. I am reseaching my families time as "old China hands" and would be happy to swap information with you. Please contact me on my email.
