Hanson in Alaska
laurenneI am looking for a family who immigrated to Ketchikan, Alaska from Norway. Here is what I know: The family owned a dry cleaner at 105 Stedman Street in Ketchikan. The father's initials (listed in phone book) are CH Hanson. They had at least one daughter who had the married name of Hoffman/Hoffmann. This daughter had a son in 1957 who was adopted at birth. I'd like to know the full names of any members in this family and where in Norway they came from. Any help is appreciated!
jwiborgHi, the famous needle in the haystack? [:)] This is not enough information to do a proper search in any immigrant or emigrant list, nor in any Norwegian census. You have to do more reseach in Ketchikan, Alaska. First, locate them in the U.S. Federal Census for 1900, 1910, 1920 or 1930. It should give you more information, such as complete names, year of immigration etc. None of these censuses are free, but maybe a helpful person could do a lookup for you....? HopkinsThe 1920 US census shows the following Hansons in the Ketchikan, Alaska area. I've added their ages in parenthesis. Hagbart P. Hanson (29), Hans Hanson (32), Hans Hanson (31), Hans Hanson (38), Harald Hanson (40), Hilmar Hanson (34), Louis Hanson (62), Peter Hanson (33), Thomas Hanson (52), and Ulrik Hanson (38). Ancestry.com would probably have the 1930 census too - and check at your local public or family history library to see if they have it available for your free use on their computers.
KatyI used to live on an Island near Ketchikan and it is not that large of a town...have you tried contacting the Sons of Norway hall there? Good Luck
