Pegster732000	John Dahl later Dale came to America in 1871 born 1850. He married a women in Minnesota in about 1884. On his death cert. it says he was born in Oslo and his fathers name was iver Williamson. can someone help me figure out how to find his passenger list. or something to find family in Norway? askeroi	I'm afraid there's something wrong with your info. There's no-one in the emmigration lists from Oslo/Christiania in 1871 who could be identifide as John/Jon/Johan/Joh./Johannes etc Da(h)l(e) or Iversen/Ivarsen. Sorry. There's unfortunately who could be father and son in the 1865 census, neither in Oslo nor anywhere else in the entire country as far as I can see. But there is a guy leaving from Stavanger who is pretty close to your information (only difference he left in 1870, not 1871): http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=STAV&gardpostnr=63589&merk=63589#ovre And he is born in Hjelmeland, and this is one of the many places where there actually is a farm called Dale, though I can't find no-one likely to be connected to him in the 1865 cencus nor in the 1900 cencus (and the 1875 cencus is not digitalised for this district). But he might be worth looking at...?
Hopkins	It is an interesting situation. Born in 1850 - John (Johan/Jon or whatever spelling) would have been old enough to be working on another farm by the time of the 1865 census. So he might not be listed on the same farm location with his father and other family in that census. So I decided to look for men named Iv.... and living on farms beginning with Da.... in the 1865 census. The ONLY "Iver Williamson" I could find on a similarly named farm turned up in Skjold area of Rogaland (that would be close to Hjelmeland) BUT this Iver Villumsen was only born in 1856! Farms by the name of Dale/Dahl or Dal (and including those with added words of description on the end) are very numerous. Has the original poster checked his application for a marriage license and/or church records in Minnesota where he may have been a member of a congregation? A death certificate can sometimes be filled with errors - the person who knew the information the best - is the person who can no longer answer the questions!
Brining	Hi I wonder if whoever gave the fathers name on the death certificate mixed the names. Pegster732000	Thanks to all of you for looking. John's middle name according to his marriage cert. was L. later it was said to be Lewis. Any people left to ask in my family are dead. The ones I did ask dont know any more so all I have is his death cert. his wifes death cert and their marriage cert.
Hopkins	You should thoroughly investigate the Johan Ludvig Wilhelms that Brining kindly pointed out on November 27, 2004. The emigration link specifies that he was from Eidberg in Østfold and born about (1872 minus 21) 1861. That means he should be in the 1865 census database -- most likely in Eidsberg.
