BriningOne possibility in Norman County Minnesota death records Click Here Stodt, __________ Feb 3 1889 No name except Even & Rakel, -- Halstad (see Ostraadt) Halstad is the community and the death record is for a stillborn child Carla
BriningI found a land patent record for Even E Ostraadt in Norman County filed in 1886 Click Here In the 1910 census there is a Ragel (Rakel?) Ostraad listed in Norman county MCDONALDSVILLE TWP age 55 widowed 11 children born 3 living immigrated 1857. She is living with her son in law Martinius? Johnson and her daughter Ella Maria age 30 born Minnesota Their children Edward 11, Henry Randolf 6, Mary J 9, and Myrtle Pauline 4. Carla
BriningI found her in the 1900 census NORMAN County HEGNE TWP Rakel Ostraat, born Dec 1854, a widow with 3 sons Julian born Dec 1885 Edwin June 1891 Peder Dec 1897 and daughter and son in law Ellen born Aug 1880 and Martin Johnson born Oct 1865 Without knowing Even's age we can't know for sure that he is the correct one but Ostraadt is not very common and with the land patent records listing him as Even E (Evenson?) I would say it is a good bet. Carla
BriningIn the Norman County Death index Click Here a possible listing for Rakel is Astavdt, Rachel Sep 18 1911 City of Ada In the MHS Death Certifcate list it is listed as ORTAUDT, RACHEL so I would guess the writing is hard to read. Even could be Ostroot, Even Aug. 9 1899 There is also a Evenson, Knud Feb. 23 1884 which could be Knut, it wasn't unheard of for members of the family to use different last names. Carla
vinwrightHello Carla, many thanks - I have emailed you. Kind regards, Vin
vinwrightHello again Carla, hope you received my brief email. I have put a posting on the RootsWeb Norman County Message Board with the information you supplied me with. I feel pretty sure (as you do) that Even E Ostraadt is not a common name and this is him. He used the full name on his passage on the 'Nordens Dronning' and so I guess he hung on to it. My great-grandfather Berthel simply used the 'Evensen' (later changing it to Evenson) and was known by his middle name, Martin. I was the one who discovered his true name(s). I will keep you posted on my progress. If I don't contact you before Christmas, have a Happy and Peaceful one. Kind regards - Vin
