Iver Arneson
MKummetI am trying to find information on Iver Arneson & Gurie Dybendahl, my great grandparents. My grandfather, Arne Arneson, and his brother Austin were born in E. Gal Hallingbal. I heard that this family came to the United States around 1883 but have no other information. Would appreciate any information on ideas where they may have departed from. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
HopkinsThe valley of Hallingdal is a part of the northern areas of Buskerud County, in the east of Norway. Hallingdal (region which has included the parish areas known as Ål, Hol, Hemsedal, Gol, Nes, and Flå) The valley stretches from the lake Krøderen in south and northwards to Hemsedal and the county border to Oppland County. The departure port which I would think to be the closest and largest (therefore most likely?) would be Oslo (Kristiainia). Knowing when each person was born (or good estimate) would be very helpful information to your search. At the Digitarlarkivet website in the database for Kristiania emigration register in 1883 I found the following family group - Iver Arnesen - 30 years old from Gol in Hallingdal, Guri Arnes. (his wife) - two children - Østen Arnes. 2 months old and Arne Arnes. 11 months old. I'll try to capture the link to that specific page - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=emikra1&gardpostnr=69494&merk=69494#ovre If that link does not work my search methodology was to choose the Kristiania emigration protocol database - limit to First Name begins with 'Iv' - then limit to Last Name/Surname begins with 'Arn'. The resulting number of matching choices was under 10 and easy to scan through.
austinaHello, My grandfather is Austin Arneson. I have pictures of him with his brothers and also one of the entire family dated around 1800.I also have all of his personal papers that show when and where the family left Norway. I can also put you in touch with my mother's cousins in Norway. They can probably answer many of your questions.
