Konrad Hansen b.1893 Norway, Emigr. to Iowa 1914
gumaMy great grandfather is born north of Bergen 29 Nov 1893 on a farm called Kjeilen(or Keilen, Keila) in Lindaas, his name was Konrad Olai Hansen. Emigrated to US, Iowa 1914. I believe Konrad have descendants both in the States and in Norway that don’t know about each other. It would be very interesting to come in contact with som of his descendants in the states or someone in the States that knew Konrad. I believe Lisa Dobson Gilmore (username Idsmom33) searched for the same Konrad on this web-site 2 years ago. I've tried to e-mail her but I don't know if she still read the e-mails on the adresses I got anymore. __________________________________________________________________________________________ Konrad was a fisherman and married in approx 1912 with my great grandmother(Olava Marie Kristofferdotter) at Karmøy in Rogaland-Norway, and they lived in a small house together with Olava's parents/familiy on a place called Sevig (Sævik). Konrad didn't make much money as a fisherman and decided to try the luck in the States. He travelled 14feb 1914 via Stavanger to Liverpool in UK, from there to Ellis Island and arrived there 24 feb 1914, his final destination was Iowa. I've been told that he sent letters and money back home to get his wife over, but she was afraid to go. Konrad then travelled back to Norway to bring his family over(I've not been able to confirm this trip via passengers lists), but Olava never go with Konrad to the states. At last Konrad gave up and went back to the states maybe in 1917 and my family at Karmoy never heard anything more from him. The Norwegian census from 1900 confirm the following family for Konrad living on the farm Kjeilen-Lindaas North of Bergen in Norway: Father: Hans Josefsen born 1863 Mother: Gurine Larsdatter born 1864 Broter: Laurits born 1888 Brother: Albert born 1890 Brother: Hans born 1896 Sister: Emma born 1898 Brother Gabriel born 1900 The 1920 US census shows a Conrad O. Hanson living in Hardin County, Iowa. He is listed as 26 yrs old, born in Norway, immigrated to the states in 1913. Conrad is a farmer in Ellis township of Hardin County and he is married to an Iowa born woman by the name of Edna (21 yrs old). They have 1 child, a daughter 1 and 1/2 yr old, named Eleanor. Also in their household is living a brother-in-law (Edna's brother), named William Lizer, 15 yrs old and born Iowa. Idsmom33 gave the following information about the Konrad she searched: My relative Conrad Ole Hansen b- 11/1893(29 Nov Idsmom33 got from one of Konrads daughters in the US) in Bergen, came here in 1913 and settled in Iowa. He married Edna Lizer in 1917. They had 3 children and lived in Iowa until WW2 when they moved to LongBeach,CA. He died 1973 in LongBeach,CA and is buried in Westminster Cemetery. I have a scanned photo of Konrad and Olava when they got married in Norway attached below, which might can help to identify if it is the same Konrad.
