Norwegians in North Dakota!
AngelaI know there must be tons of Norwegians there, but I'm looking specifically for the family of Ole Haraldson (sen?) and Bergit- although I have some confusion over her last name. My great-grandfather, Laurence, would have been born in Milton, and married Sarah Anderson. I have conflicting information, and very little of it at that, so I'm searching for more. Thanks!
HopkinsThe 1920 US census shows an Ole Haraldson in Walsh County, North Dakota. He is 63 yrs old, married to a 'Bergitte'? (also 63 yrs old) and is listed as emigrated about 1888. The 1910 US census lists him as Ole Haroldson (a not unexpected spelling variation) in Walsh County, ND. He is 54 yrs old, married to 'Bergit', and has two sons living at home 'Lornce'? and Teodore. This census also lists that he emigrated from Norway in 1888. Lornce is listed as having been born in Norway 24 yrs earlier. The 1900 US census lists him as Ole Haraldson in Walsh County, ND. He lists that he was born 1856 in Norway and emigrated in 1888. All three children are living at home and the son 'Lorns Harald' was born July 1885 in Norway. The US federal censuses and the state/territorial censuses done in North Dakota will provide you with a great deal of information.
HopkinsThe LDS set of microfiche (#6350054 - showing emigrants from Telemark) indicates that Ole Haraldsen (32 yrs old), wife Birgit (34 yrs old), daughter Gunhild (4 1/2 yrs old) and son Lorants (2 1/2 yrs old) left for 'Park River' on 29 Mar 1888. They are listed as coming from Kragerø, Telemark, Norway and sailing on the 'Hekla'
AngelaThank you so much for your help! I'm just starting to go through some of the LDS websites, and found reports of what appears to be the correct family in Norway, but there was a big gap between Norway and N. Dakota. Thanks again!
