Drammen records 1850 to 1900
NormanPlease suggest sources of birth/family records for Drammen Norway for the period 1850 to 1900. Have identified at least three siblings born in Drammen but only have Americanized names. Thora Lee - born 1886 John Lee - born 1890 Carl Lee - born ? Their father was a sea captain and one sibling son was lost at sea. Origninal name of Johansen but with all variations of this name I cannot find any leads in Digitalarkivet All Ellis Island immigration records show Thora Lee and John Lee. I apologize for the weak information but I am just starting my genealogy search and am very inexperienced. Thank you for any help. Norm Lee
HopkinsYou've checked on the Digitalarkivet and not found what you seek. Then check the LDS library catalog at www://www.familysearch.org Click on "Search the Family History Library catalog for records and resources" Choose the option for a Place Search Enter Drammen for 'Place' and Buskerud or Norway for 'Part of...' After clicking to confirm the correct location has been chosen - you will be presented with a list of the various topics for Drammen that the LDS library has materials for. Many of these materials will be copied to microfilm or microfiche that you can order and use at the nearest Family History Center. Drammen parish was part of Bragernes prestegjeld (clerical district) and the church records of Den Norske Kirke for Bragernes will probably be excellent resources for detail information about the births of your family members. Also should contain church confirmation records, marriage records, deaths/burials, etc. If you've never used the Norwegian church records before you'll find an excellent article about that subject in this collection - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/articles.html You didn't say WHEN the Lees went through Ellis Island. Would there be a chance that they were still in Norway for the 1900 Norwegian census?
