| rlkern | I have some confusion regarding names and places in Norway. A family document lists a Aase Gulsdatter as being born in Jorgensrud, Sigdal. FamilySearch lists a Aase Gulsen at being born in Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway. I tend to believe that Jorgensrud is a farm or community name. Please let me know if I'm on the right track. | Hopkins | Buskerud is the 'county' that Sigdal district is located in. Rather like Travis County is in Texas or Dane County is in Wisconsin, USA. (Norway is not divided into "states" like the US but into fylker - we English-speaking usually call them counties. Canada is divided into provinces, Switzerland is divided into cantons, Norway is divided into fylker - plural form of fylke). The 1865 Norwegian census online database can list all the farm names used in Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway when that census was taken - and, yes, it lists a farm by the name of Jørgensrud. That census also lists that particular farm as being within the parish called Krødsherad (so that area name may also appear in much of your research).
