Eitun/Eitorn/Eithun
nisselin	I'm looking for descendants of Christi Hansdtr (b. 1809) and Botolv Larss. Eitun/Eitorn/Eithun (b.1806). They arrived in New York with the ship Minerva in 1851. They went from Bergen (Balestrand). They had 6 children when they left Norway: Lars (b. 10 Feb 1836), Anne (b. 9 Aug 1838), Hans (b. 13 May 1841), Ole (b. 25 Nov 1843), Erik (b. 5 Oct 1846) and Kari (b.29 Jan 1850). On the same ship was also Christi's two sisters, Kari Fjærestad and Brita Svardal from Vik in Sogn. Kari went with husband and two children, Brita was single. I think both Kari and Brita settled in Kasson, Dodge County, MN. I've found descendants of both. I'm also trying to find out what happened with my g.g.grandfather Alv Olsson Hauglum (b. 1828), from Vik in Sogn. He went to America from Bergen in 1856, unmarried.
Hopkins	The 1870 US census shows a "Alf Oleson" living in Vernon, Dodge County, Minnesota. He is listed as 42 years old, born Norway and working as a farmer. He is married and has 4 children. Hopkins	Dodge County, Minnesota seems a popular destination for everyone you were seeking. 1870 US census - "Battel Larson", 64 yrs old, born Norway, occupation farmer, lives in Canisteo township, Dodge Co. Minnesota. Wife - "Christiana", 61 yrs old, born Norway; son - Lewis, 34 yrs old, born Norway; son - Hans, 27 yrs old, born Norway; son - Alex, 23 yrs old, born Norway; son - Andrew, 16 yrs old, born Iowa; daughter - Caroline, 20 yrs old, born Norway.

nisselin	Do you have any idea how I can find out where this Alf Oleson came from in Norway, to be sure it's the right one? Or his wife? I guess here name in Norway would be Lucie or Lussi. Before he emmigrated he had three children with three different women: -with Ingeborg Tolleivsdtr. Nissestad: Ola b. 18.4. 1854 -with Synneva Ingebrigtsdtr. Dale: Ola b. 29.9. 1854 d. 20.10. 1854 -with Olina Hermundsdtr. Vetlesand: Synneva b. 7.7. 1856 (he had come to America when she was born). Olina H. Vetlesand (b. 28.1.1826) and her daughters Kari (b.1852) and Synneva (b.1856) also went to America in1866.
Hopkins	Your Alf left for America very early. You might try looking for someone who has one or more of the Gerhard Naeseth books - Norwegian Immigrants to the United States and ask them if he might be mentioned in those. I checked at one of my favorite websites where volunteers list the materials they have access to and offer to do limited lookups. http://members.tdn.com/~dagwood/lookups.html#Marthaler I've tried to include a detail URL to a listing for one person who says that they have three volumes of those books. It is also possible that persons with knowedge of the history of either Dodge County Minnesota - or Brookings in what was the Dakota Territory (would that be South Dakota today??? - possibly) might be able to find some other reference to the Alf Oleson we saw in the 1870 US census. Try the GENWEB pages for each of those locations and see if any "experts" lurk there. I didn't find the same "Alf Oleson" in any US census after the 1880 - so I couldn't find any easy way to get an idea of the year that he immigrated.
Hopkins	December 5 of last year Olaf Kringhaug put a translation from 'Nordmændene i Amerika' by Martin Ulvestad (published 1907) that covered the entry for Dodge County, Minnesota. That entry includes "Bottolf Larson Eithoren? from Vik in Sogn". Check the archives of the Norway-List or the Oppland-List at Rootsweb.
