Seeking descendants Petersons, from Torpa, Norway
JerryMy great-grandmother, Agnete Pedersdatter Verhaug, lived at Decorah, Iowa. Her brother, Severt, ( Feb. 5, 1836-Feb. 7, 1930), immigrated from Torpa, Norway in 1855 and lived just across the State line, at Fountain, Minnesota. His wife, Anna Johnson, was Swedish. I'd like any information about his descendants. Agnete's sister Berte, born 1830, immigrated in 1855 to Fountain, Minnesota. She married a certain Hans Peterson, and had sons Peter and Endres. Agnete's brother, also Hans, born 1828 at Torpa, immigrated in 1850 to Wiota, Wisconsin. Agnete's half brother Andrew, born 1853 at Torpa, immigrated in 1867 to Fountain(?), Minnesota, later migrated to Silverton, Oregon. His wife, Gertie, died in 1919. His daughter, Clara, married (another) Andrew Peterson, who died March 12, 1935, in Benton County, Oregon. Two of his children were Alvin, (born ca. 1928) and Andrew C. (born ca. 1929.) I'd like information about any of the above.
jmonsonThis post sounds like you are only looking for descendents in the US. Do you have information on the family in Norway? I may have information back 2-3 generations in Norway. By the way, Vaerhaug would be a better spelling. Actually it should have the a and e connected, but I don't know if I can get it to happen. Værhaug under Skinnerlia
JerryI have some information about the Vaerhaugs in Norway. Haven't typed it that way, because I can't run the a and e together on this American keyboard. I'd like to know what you have about the Vaerhaugs in Norway.
RobertaTry this Rootswebs message board for Vest-Agder, Norway at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/localities.scan-balt.norway.counties.vestagder/269.1.1 There is a list there of how to get those special Norwegian characters - should work on most keyboards - in fact it tells you how to install the Norwegian Keyboard if you are a Windows user - I haven't tried that, but the other options work really well.
