Great Grandfather left Kristisnsend in 1902
SeverreI am in the beginning stages of genealogy on my fathers side and hit a road block two generations back! My grandmother's bible lists this: Einar Severre Larsen b.Nov 11, 1875 Kristisnsend Norway d. May 25, 1957 in Escanaba, MI USA, married Sophia Marie Simonsen b. March 30, 1880 in Stegar Norway d. April 14, 1950 in Escanaba, MI USA. Einar's parents were Lars Johnson and Bredt Einarsdotter brothers John, Einar, [Ludwig &Bernt ;twins (died at infancy)], and Bernt Sophia's father was Simon Olsen I am really hoping someone can give me information on my family or places to e-mail and find out more about them. I am comming to Norway on my Honeymoon and if I have any living realitives, I would love to meet while I am over there. Any help would be greatly appriciated
HopkinsThere is no Kristisnsend Norway - so that means it had to be either Kristiansand or Kristiansund (two different ports). On the Digitalarkivet website in the database of emigrants from Kristiansund, Møre og Romsdal, Norway we find what appears to be a match for your Einar Severre Larsen -- http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=EMIKRUT&gardpostnr=7875&sokefelt=skjul He is 27 yrs old, unmarried and coming from Stangvik in Nordmøre area of Norway and heading to Michigan. The 'Bøe' MIGHT be the name of the farm where he previously lived.
HopkinsEinar's family in the 1900 Norwegian census - http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1900&knr=1565&kenr=001&bnr=0021&lnr=00 Åsskard (Åsgard) is a parish area in Stangvik That's also in Møre og Romsdal... Good study materials here - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/articles.html
HopkinsSofie in the 1900 census - http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1900&knr=1601&kenr=067&bnr=0036&lnr=02 (The census records her place of birth as Stegen, Nordland) In 1900 she was working in the city of Trondheim - so it seems probable that would be the port she would emigrate from. And in the register of emigrants from Trondheim - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=EMITROND&gardpostnr=102927&sokefelt=skjul
SeverreI'm Sorry, yes Kristiansand (and this may be a typo in the Bible, it could be -sund). Now, is there anyway to check for family records to show brothers, sisters, mother and father? Uncles or Aunts?
HopkinsThe 1900 census link did show Einar's family.... that gave father, mother and probably that younger brother. You'll want to research in more detail in the other records for those areas - that's why I included the link to the excellent 'how-to' articles.
SeverreThanks!
