Looking for David Tullucksen Moe
CynDavid Tullucksen Moe came to Boston, MA from Norway about 1893 with his wife, Carina Pedersen and 2 sons, John & Walter Moe. David left his family in Boston area and went to visit a brother in WA and died there in 1928. I haven't the slightest idea how to go about finding where the family came from in Norway and who the brother was in WA. The family has always said that Moe comes from the Valley of Mo in Norway.
HopkinsMore identifying information is needed. Go through all the US records that you can find concerning that family. Records such the various US censuses will probably help you provide at least approximate birth years and confirm (or expand) the immigration year to be checked. Look for state censuses, city directories, church records, etc. Check with all other cousins, aunts, uncles and anyone else in that family - someone might have a secret stash of information. If you can also find identifying information concerning the brother who was in WA - that would be very good!! Both of them would be expected to have come from the same part of Norway and having information on both of them DOUBLES your chances of finding some definite link in the Norwegian census databases and/or emigration records. There are several districts which have been called Mo in Norway -- one each in Hedmark, Hordaland, Møre og Romsdal, Nordland and Telemark.
DALBCould your David have come to the USA more than one time? I found 3 entries for the name David Tallaksen. There are 2 entries for a David Tallaksen leaving from Kristiansand in southern Norway. He was married on both entries. 1885 10 Apr age 33 - residence was listed as Nordan. Frist., destination was Boston on the Cunnard Lines 1890 09 Mai age 38 David Tallaksen, Sømand, whose residence is Boston and destination Boston This port would be very close to the coastal area of Telemark, where I did find a David Tallaksen age 14, born in Sandøkedal, working as a hired hand at Rørholt in Bamble, Telemark on the 1865 census. In 1865, at Sandøkedal, Kragero, Telemark at Hougeberg, is a possible family for David. Tallak Hans. and Ingeborg Jensd. (who was born in Bamble), and children, Ingeborg K 20, Hans Sev. 17, and Marie 11 The father and children are all born in Sandøkedal In Bamble, at the Moe/Moen farm is a family who could be your Corina's (note Else Karina 12) Peder Henriks. 51, Kari Knudsd. 43 (born Drangedal), Eilert 24, Anne Kristine 20, Asborg H 15, Else Karina 12, Inger Pernille 9, and Knud P 4, plus 2 hired hands. Peder and all the children were born in Bamble. US 1910 census - Weymouth MA has Carina Moe with 5 of her children - 2 are deceased. Walter age 23 was born Norway, Marie and others were born in Mass. In WA 1910 there is a Dave Moe, a lodger living on Jackson Street, in Seattle, King, WA, but no age nor birth place is listed for most of the lodgers. I checked another source that lead me to the Kristiania passenger lists. David Tallaksen age 34 Sømand, from Kragero Telemark, left Kristiania on 23 April 1886, on the Angelo, destination Boston. Karine Tallakson age 33 married woman, with two children Johan 11, and Thorwald 8, and Anna Peders. 30, left from Kragero, Telemark, leaving Kristiania on 1 Sept 1892 on the Norge, destination Boston. (Johan became John, and Thorwald must be Walter) I did save the data from the various records, if you would like me to send them to you, via e-mail. You would need to check parish records for verification on the families. Once you have verified the data, check out the Telemark web site and record your emigrant family in their "Coming Home" database. http://www.telelaget.com/
BriningA possible match for Karine in the 1865 census Click Here Karine is about the correct age and a sister Anna who would be about the same age as the Anna Peders. traveling with her to Boston. They are also listed in the Ellis Island records Carla
