MS Nordbygden
RobertaHas anyone run across any information on the MS (motor vessel) Nordbygden (merchant marine) out of Norway which sank the North sea in November of 1893?
Jo Anne SadlerHave you tried contacting Siri at Warsailors, she might be able to get you some clues to research further. I believe they have a message board, also.
RobertaIn checking out Warsailors again, I posted a message on their message board. It was called to my attention that what I am looking for may be a barq by the name of Nordbygd that was lost in the North Sea in 1893. They promised to send more information if I replied, which I did, but so far I have not heard anything more. Does anyone on this message board have or know how to find information on it?
BorgeIt is possible to check in the old newspapers if you know the date.
RobertaAccording to Bruksnr. 9 of the Listaboka II, it was November of 1893. "Julius Gabrielsen 1860-1893, styrmann....Han omkom ved <<Nordbygden>> s forlis i Nordsjøen i november 1893. " As far as I can tell (since I don't speak Norwegian nor do I read it) this translates to: he was a first mate and perished on the Nordbygden which was wrecked in the North Sea in November of 1893. How do I access the newspapers? Thank you,
Jo Anne SadlerHave you tried: www.warsailors.com Lots of links and information on the Norwegian Merchant Marines.
RobertaYes, I have tried that site. It's a good site as far as it goes, but most of the information does not go far enough back in history. Unless there is a link I missed when I was checking it out, I couldn't find the Nordbygden there in 1893. Thank you for the suggestion though.
RobertaI got a response at http://www.warsailors.com/phorum/read.php?f=1&i=19215&t=19215 for the information of anyone following this conversation.
