Telemark to Boston 1881-lost family
nqhkay	Hello, I am new on this forum, so I apologize if I ask the wrong things. Here is my dilema. My family, the Ole K Traaen, left Fladal, Telemark, Norway in about 1881. they arrived in the port of Boston about December of that year. Those ship records were burned in a fire. Is there any way I can find the records of them leaving Norway? The only info I have that gives me the Dec 1881 date, is Ole's brother Halvor, made a statement written in the Yellow Medicine Co. Minnesota records, that claimed he arrrived at this time in Boston. As these brothers seemed to live and move together, I am assuming that Ole K Traaen, Halvor Traaen and Kittil Traaen, all came the same time. Ole had a wife, Guro Jacobsd. Huse and 2 daughters, Ingeborg and Julia or Margit. Any feedback would be appreciated. Just toady, I found that I could ask Mass. archives, for any records that they have, and they may be limited, but anything is more than nothing!!!! Thanks Kay Neubauer nqh@earthlink.net kay neubauer
Borge	I checked the Digitalarkivet departures from Christiania (Oslo) but could only find 2 persons registered by Traaen - Jens and Sigrid from Rollaug going to Houston. However, your people might only be registered by their patronymic, so it would help if you provided ore information. Børge Solem
askeroi	I too had a look at Digitalarkivet for this one. There are only a handful of people saying they came from Fladal. Unfortunately none of them fit the description. There is one Ole, though, even from 1881, but he is listed as Ole Thorstensen, 16 years. But he travelled together with his 18 years old brother Lars, so it doesn't look like the right person. Either can I find any farm in Fladal called Traaen. The name appears several other places, even in Telemark, but (as far as I can see) not in Fladal. So this is more than one mystery... Do you know what the K. stood for? askeroi
