Bullen
Hanne ButvilloI am a curator at Nord-Jarlsbergmuseene in Norway and I am looking for a man called Samuel Bullen (born 1876 in Bury, England) and his family Anna (born Gunneriussen, Norway) and their two sons Walther (born 1897) and Alfred (born 1900) who emigrated from Berger in Svelvik, Norway to USA. I have a picture of them from 1901 and I expect that they emigrated some time after that. Samuel was one of the sons of West and Jane Bullen who came with the children to Berger, Norway from Oldham, UK to work at Fossekleiva textile mill in 1889. I am grateful for all the help I can get! Thanks! [:)]

Jo Anne SadlerThis is very odd, they all arrived at the Port of Boston on November 15, 1905 on the S/S Ivernia which left Liverpool on November 7, 1905. Samuel Bulen, 28, carver (?) word laborer was crossed-out, English-word Norwegian was crossed out, from Berger. Anna, 28, Norwegian,Wafer (?), 8 and Alfred, 6, Norwegian. Destination: Uncle Elling Ommundsen, 852 16th Ave., St. Cloud, Minnesota
jwiborg[:)] Another nice piece of work, Jo Anne! but strange that they arrived together...! Samuel is not listed at all among the emigrants from Oslo.... [:I]
Hanne ButvilloThank you Jo Anne and Jan! This was the first time I tried this forum and I am stunned that you could help me so fast! Thank you! [:D] - Perhaps Samuel chose to visit family in Lancashire before joining the rest of the family on the boat in Liverpool? Therefore he had taken another boat to England? Well, I don't know, but now I at least now where they went. Thanks!
Jo Anne SadlerThe Samuel Bullin family is listed on the 1881 census on Familysearch.org. Under Rootsweb.com, Social Security death index: Walter Lawrence Bullen, born January 25, 1898, died July 18, 1949, Los Angeles, CA, mother's maiden name Larsen. Alfred Bullen, born January 22, 1900, died May 1976, Superior, Wisconsin.
jwiborgHi Jo Anne, a question for you... Where did you find their immigration records at Port of Boston ? Are the database available online for free? I see that Ancestry.com offers Boston Passenger Lists, but only if you have a subscription... [:I] Jan Peter [:)]
Jo Anne SadlerUnfortunately, Jan Peter, I don't know of anything other place that has the Boston lists. I do subscribe to Ancestry.com. The databases have separate subscriptions census/passenger lists/World Tree/newspapers and you don't have to subscribe to them all which would get expensive. I only get census and passenger lists. They usually have a two week free trial, you can join online but if you want to cancel, you have to call them up on the telephone. You can also join for three months. I was just going to get the Immigration subscription for a short time but believe it or not, I have not found all my people so I keep looking. Sometimes I think one is never done with family history.[:p]
