Seeking Tennison Immigrants
Cyndy Moen	I am researching the Tennison family of Wisconsin and later North Dakota. I have been looking for a Michael Tennison, born around 1818, wife Bertha, and children Mary, Tennes, Peter and Martha. They are in the 1860--1880 censuses for Marquette County Wisconsin. But I can't find them in a 1850 census, so thought maybe they immigrated after 1850. I don't know Michael's fathers name or the farm name. In looking through passenger lists for a Mikkel I found a listing on the ship Emigrant which sailed in 1852 for a Mikkel Drange, wife Bertha, and 9 month daughter. If Drange is the farm name where would I start looking for records of them?
Hopkins	The 1865 Norwegian census shows farms named Drange in several different areas. Oddernes and Herad, Vest-Agder. Helleland and Lund, Rogaland. Sveio and Tysnes, Hordaland.
Brining	Mikkel Drange is listed on the bark Emigrant which departed from Flekkefjord. There is a Drange, near Flekkefjord, Vest Agder on a current map so this would be the most likely area to look. Parish/church records, which are available on microfilm from the LDS, would have information on birth, death, emigration etc. Carla

Be aware that the spelling in the censuses are not very consistent. Tannes, Tennes, Tonne, Tonnes, Tynnes, Tønne, Tønnen, Tønner, Tønnes, Tønni, Tønnis could all be different variations of the same name... She could be Michael Tennison's sister... [:)] But from LDS... Cyndy Moen	Thanks to all for the help and insight. I think that Tonnes Machelson could well have been Mikkel's father. Mikkel must have dropped the farm name after he got here, If the Mikkel Drange is my Michael Tennison, and I think it is, I still haven't found any records for him between the passenger list and the 1860 census in Wisconsin. There is a 1855 state census for Columbus, Wisconsin that list a Michael Tennison. but I haven't seen a copy of it as yet. This Norwegian side of the family is both interesting and frustrating.
