How far is Borge from Grue?
NearNorsewoodHow far is the farm Hvidsten, in Borge parish, from farm Karvastorpet in Grue parish? Do you think it is likely that someone from Borge would have moved to Grue around 1865? Also, can anyone tell me what "Dagarbeider" means? Thanks.
jwiborgHi, there are three major "Hvidsten" farms in Borge parish, do you know which ones your people came from? They're called Hvidsten west (Gnr 24), Hvidsten middle (Gnr 25) and Hvidsten East (Gnr 26). Today the farms are called "Vesten" and can be found in Fredrikstad muncipality, Østfold county: Vesten vestre (24) Vesten mellem (25) Vesten østre (26) They're situated next to each other, so for your question here it not a big deal... Grue is in Hedmark county. I'm not sure where the farm "Karvastorpet" was located, but the distance between Hvidsten middle farm and the Grue church in Grue, Hedmark is 220 km. Today it will take you some 3 hrs and 20 minutes by car... It's not a very big journey. It could indicate any kind of work, but probably farmwork on the countryside. Jan Peter
NearNorsewoodThanks for the info, but I still haven't made the connection I'm looking for. I found that the Amund AMUNDSEN, supposed uncle of Roald AMUNDSEN, who emigrated to New Zealand, was married to Elise LARSDATTER. See http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=hentglobal®ister=fornavn&pgj=67&teljing=ft1865&filnamn=f60423.wc2&amt=4&funnenr=270. Apparently, they lived in Sweden for some years before coming to NZ. I shall continue this in the Roald AMUNDSEN thread at http://www.norwayheritage.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2139
