Morken family
Bente-aI hope someone can be able to help me find my great-grandfather. He was born in Soendre-Fron in Gudbrandsdalen in Norway 24'th of July 1894 ca. His name was Kristian Morken. He arrived Ellis Island, New York, march-april 1916 in Bergensfjord from Oslo (Kristiania)In the shipsmanifest he said he was going to Alberto, Minnesota, but I can't find him anywhere. He might change his name. He also had a sister who came to America. Her name was Hannah Morken. Kristian left his seven brothers back in Norway. Their name was: Anton, Mathias, Olaf, Ole, Thorvald, Karl and Johannes. I hope this name look familiar to anyone who can tell me what happened with Kristian Morken. Thanks in advance. Bente-A.
jwiborgHi, just for the records... here are some useful links... Morken". Is that Hannah? I guess it must be Alberta, in Stevens county, Minnesota. This page have records of deaths in Minnesota. A lot of Morken's but noone named Kristian. Maybe he changed name to Chris Christian...? There are a 2 records of "Chris Mork"... [;)] Jan Peter
BriningHere is one possibility in North Dakota Richland County, ND, City of Wahpeton - Funeral Home Index Click Here MORKEN Christ H. born 1889 The year of birth doesn't match but mistakes were made. His father's name was Hans so the H. fits. Carla
Bente-aHi, and thank you both. I am going to see if I can find out more about Christ H. Morken. The year of birth was almost right, and this is exciting. I once found a Kristian Morken in Pope, but he was not the right man, even he was from the same place in Norway. He was much too old. But this one is worth a try. Once again thank you. I'll let you both know. Bente-A.
BriningHi I think I also found Hanna emigrating in 1914 Click Here Hanna Hans. Ringen Ringen was the farm they were on in 1900 so makes sense. That is another possible name to search on Carla
Bente-aHello again. Yes, Hanna is the sister of Kristian. And it's the right person you found. But I wonder if you might have helped me more than you know in you last message. I am not sure, this will take a while. I have been on Ancestry.com right now and Christ H. Morken is writing in the books in 1930 he is born in North Dakota. But he also writes his parents are living in Norway. That's strange, I think. But if he is born in North Dakota, why is he not in the Cencus for 1910-1920? I also found a Charles Morken who is in 1920 cencus, but not in 1930. I wonder if those are the same. My grandfather had a nickname Charles after his father who left. I will try to sort this out. By the way, we met Hanna and her family in Chicago in 1984, before she died. But she lost contact with her brother when she left Minnesota. Now I will search some more, and see what we found. Thank you so much for now. Bente-A.
BriningWhat was Hannah's married name? If she hadn't left Minnesota before the 1920 census, you might be able to find her and maybe Kristian was in the same area. Bad new is I found the North Dakota Kristian living with his father George in the 1900 census Richland county North Dakota.[:(] Carla
Bente-aHi again Carla. I have try to find out from 1900 cencus about Kristian (christ h) or george, but I can't find them. I have searhed for North Dakota. Hanna's married name was Lindquist. I will try to find out where she lived in Minnesota. Bente-A.
