Looking for information about a domestic servant
lintelma	Hello! I am a college professor working on a book about a Swedish immigrant woman who eventually immigrated to the US. She grew up in Dalsland, Sweden. After her confirmation she worked for one year as a domestic (piga) in Dalsland, after which time she (according to one of her personal documents): "reste till Norge och hade där anställningar i Ids socken, på Fargalsmoen och Stomberg samt ett par år i Fredriksstad." She was born 15 February 1867. Her name was Mina Anderson (or Andersson). She would have been in Norway from about 1883 until she immigrated in 1890. I would like to find out more information about her time in Norway. Where were the farms located where she worked? How large were they? Would I find her listed on any records in Norway? Might I be able to find pictures of the places where she worked? Do the buildings still survive? Would she have been working with many other servants on these farms (she does mention dancing with servants from the area every Saturday evening, and sometimes in the evenings after work was done, when her employer would take out his fiddle and play)? In one document she also says she worked at "Ids prästgård." I can read Norwegian (though I am better at reading Swedish). I am trying to get a copy of the bygdebok for Id herred through interlibrary loan, thinking that might help. I realize this is probably a rather odd post, since I am doing book research rather than geneaology, but I am hoping someone on the forum might provide me with some information or advice. jwiborg	Hi, I could not locate any farm called "Fargalsmoen" in the area, but there is a fram called Stumberg in Halden, Østfold county. Idd was joined with Halden municipality in 1965 Østfold county is the area south east of Oslo. The biggest city is Fredrikstad. The Stumberg farm in Idd is on the "white area" just south of Halden city.
