Claus Lauritzen Christensen
denman	My name is Irene Denman, and I'm looking for anybody how can help me find out which ship Claus Lauritzen Christensen arrived on in the US. He was a chaplain in the norwegian community in the US. He was born on Ærø (Aero) in 1820 and in 1843 then he was 23 he went to the states with his 1st. wife Martha, how was born on Langeland. He later married a norwegian by the name of Berit? He was among the founder of St. Ansgar in Iowa and he were one of three founders of the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He served with the 15th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, known as the Scandinavian Regiment during the civil war. I hope somebody out there can help me. And if you know of other things releated to him, I'm also interested.
Borge	Hi Irene I don't think we have Claus in our database yet, so you might try the book "Norwegian Immigrants to the United States, A Biographical Directory, 1825-1850 by Gerhard Naeseth. It was published by the Vesterheim Museum, and they might still have some for sale for 1843. If not maybe you can ILL for it. Børge Solem
Helen Hansen Sewell	Irene: The person you should be looking for is Claus Lauritz CLAUSEN. His biography "The Founder of St. Ansgar, The Life Story of Claus Laurits Clausen" was written by H. Fred Swansen, a professor of history at Dana College, Blair, Nebraska. This book is now out of print and I have lost my copy, however I can give you some information from the 1964 Centennial Observance at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Rev.
