Anna's ship from England to America (via Canada)
cockatiel	Hi all, I have really been having a rough time trying to find the ship my grandmother Anna Ruud (nee-Wamnes or Vamnes) took from England to America (via Canada). I am assuming it is Canada as my mother remembers her mom telling her this. I guess I can only go on the assumption that this info is correct. I have already found out from Jan Peter her details leaving Norway. She left on May 22, 1903 on the ship S/S Angelo from Oslo to Hull, and was travelling with a Josefine Skesvig. I am also assuming my grandmother took the train into Liverpool and left from there. Is there any way if her record can be found and if I can obtain a passenger list/ manifest from it? Any information would be most appreciated and would really help with this brick wall I can't seem to get over. Regards, Cockatiel [:)]
Jo Anne Sadler	Anna's ship did not come to the United States "via" Canada, it would have been a very large steamship. The ship would have reached it's final port of destination, most likely Quebec and she would have disembarked. From there she would have taken a train or a combination of a train/steamer to her final destination, Chicago. They are no records for the train/steamer travel or Hull train records. The Canadian passenger list microfilms can be rented at a local Family History Center, you know the exact date she left so you would look around starting about 10 days after that. The Oslo departure list does not give the name of the shipping company.
cockatiel	Hi Jo Anne, Thank you for the tip and heading me in the right direction. I was beginning to think that I would have to go to my local family history center, because I wasn't finding anything at all. Receiving your messege made me sure of what I have to do now. I know you mentioned her Oslo record didn't include the shipping line, but the name of the ship was listed, and the S/S Angelo is with the Wilson Line, isn't it? Or doesn't it work that way? If not, I guess I'll just have to do what you mentioned and start searching from about the 10 day mark onwards. Thank you for the tips, at least I know where to go from here. Regards, Cockatiel [:)]
jwiborg	Hi, a possibility is the [url="http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_ship.asp?sh=cana3"]S/S Canada[/url], arriving in Quebec on June 05th, 1903, sailing from Liverpool. It says the journey lasted for 7 days, so a possible departure from L'pool would be 29th of May. I'm not familiar with the Canada microfilms, but maybe her arrival is on [url="http://www.genealogy.gc.ca/10/10080302_e.html"]T-481[/url]...? Jan Peter
Jo Anne Sadler	Yes, the Wilson Line operated the Angelo but in this situation they were only involved in operating the feeder ships from Norway to England. cockatiel	Hi Jan, Wow!, That's great finding that ship S/S Canada for me. Thanks alot for all your help. There must be quite a few lists of ships to go through, and knowing where to look helps too. I wouldn't have a clue where to begin with all the ships out there. The S/S Canada does seem like a good possibility. I already have looked up the LDS file for the corresponding Canadian Archive number you gave me. Also took down the next one as a back-up when I go down to my LDS Family History Center sometime in July. I have some other records I want ordered as well like the parish records. Thought I'd do it all at once. I will have to wait about 3 weeks for the films to come in from Salt Lake City, and I will have about 4 weeks to view all of them. Hope I find some information off the films to make some copies. I will let you know if the S/S Canada is the ship we're after or not. The dates sure seem to fit in place nicely with that ship.
